oSIST prEN 2288:2026 is the Slovenian standard identical to draft European Standard prEN 2288 from CEN. It specifies flanged bushes in corrosion resisting steel with a self-lubricating liner for aerospace assemblies, including their dimensions, loads, materials, marking and design recommendations. It is written for designers, manufacturers and quality teams that need a common part definition for fixed and moving aerospace parts.

What does oSIST prEN 2288:2026 specify?

oSIST prEN 2288:2026 specifies the characteristics of flanged bushes in corrosion resisting steel with a self-lubricating liner, plus design guidance for the shafts and housings they run in. The bushes are intended for interference-fit assembly and for operation from -55 °C to 163 °C.

The document is organized into these clauses:

  • 1 Scope
  • 2 Normative references
  • 3 Terms and definitions
  • 4 Requirements
  • 5 Designation
  • 6 Marking
  • 7 Technical specification
  • 8 Design recommendation
  • 9 Quality management system

What are the key requirements of oSIST prEN 2288:2026?

The core requirements are in Clause 4, with installation and quality requirements in Clauses 8 and 9. In practice, this is the part that tells a supplier what geometry, materials, finish and identification the bush must have.

Dimensions, mass and surface finish

Clause 4.1 ties the bush configuration to Figure 1 and the dimensions and masses to Figure 1 and Table 1, after surface treatment. Only bushes whose masses fall within the bold limits are standard, and the recommended sizes are marked with an asterisk. Clause 4.2 requires the surface roughness to follow Figure 1. For a buyer or designer, this is the basis for part interchangeability and for checking whether a proposed size is one of the standard options.

Materials and liner

Clause 4.3 specifies the bush material as steel S80/AISI431, with listed acceptable material references including EN 3490, EN 3161 and 1.4044 per WL1.4044, or an equivalent according to TR 4661. The liner must be a self-lubricating, wear-resistant material consistent with EN 2311. This matters because the bush performance depends on both the steel body and the liner system.

Surface treatment

Clause 4.4 uses a simple coding system: no code means no surface treatment, while code T means passivated. The passivation must follow AMS 2700 by the listed methods and types. That gives procurement and inspection teams a clear way to specify corrosion protection.

Designation and marking

Clause 5 defines the designation structure using the diameter code, length code, surface treatment code and technology code. Table 3 identifies technology code A for a bonded fabric liner and B for an injection moulded liner; no code means either technology may be used at the user's convenience. Clause 6 requires each bush and its package to carry the identity block, with the manufacturer’s technology stated, and marking to follow EN 2424.

Installation and loads

Clause 8 says the bushes are intended for interference fit installation, and the loads in Table 2 can only be assured if the recommended mounting is used. The figure and text specify housing diameter H7, shaft diameter f6, and a minimum shaft hardness of 50 HRC. In practice, this means the stated loads are tied to the mounting conditions, not just the bush itself.

Quality management

Clause 9 requires the manufacturer to be an approved production organization for aerospace products and to maintain a quality management system such as EN 9100 or an equivalent aerospace-accepted system. For supply chains, this links the part standard to controlled aerospace production.

What terms does oSIST prEN 2288:2026 use?

  • Interference fit - the bush is installed into the housing with a tight fit, which is why the mounting conditions affect the achievable loads.
  • Self-lubricating liner - the wear-resistant liner provides low-friction running without separate lubrication being part of the part definition.
  • Passivated - code T means the steel has a corrosion-resistance treatment according to AMS 2700.
  • Technology code - the designation uses A for a bonded fabric liner and B for an injection moulded liner.
  • Rockwell C hardness (HRC) - the shaft hardness requirement in Clause 8 is stated on this scale.
  • H7 and f6 - these fit designations are used for the housing and shaft dimensions in the installation recommendation.
  • Quality management system (QMS) - Clause 9 requires an aerospace production QMS such as EN 9100.

Who uses oSIST prEN 2288:2026?

oSIST prEN 2288:2026 is used in aerospace design, procurement, manufacturing and inspection. Designers use it to select the bush, define the shaft and housing interface, and set the installation conditions. Suppliers use it to make the part to the correct dimensions, materials and marking. Quality managers use it to check conformance, production control and the aerospace quality management system requirements.

What changed in oSIST prEN 2288:2026 from the previous edition?

According to the foreword, this edition:

  • updates the normative references
  • adds Clause 3, Terms and definitions
  • updates Clause 4, Requirements, with surface treatment requirements
  • updates Clause 4.3, Materials
  • adds Clause 4.4, Surface treatment
  • updates the bibliography
  • includes editorial revisions

It supersedes EN 2288:2019.

Which standards are used with oSIST prEN 2288:2026?

  • EN 2311 - provides the technical specification for bushes with self-lubricating liner and gives the load definitions referenced in Table 2.
  • EN 2424 - sets the marking method for aerospace products.
  • EN 3161 - gives one acceptable steel material reference for the bush body.
  • EN 3490 - gives another acceptable steel material reference for the bush body.
  • AMS 2700 - defines the passivation method used when surface treatment code T is selected.
  • WL1.4044 - provides another permitted stainless steel material reference.
  • TR 4661 - supports equivalent material and surface-treatment selection for aerospace bearings and flight controls.
  • EN 9100 - is cited as an example of an acceptable aerospace quality management system.

What does the oSIST prEN 2288:2026 document contain?

The document contains Figure 1 for the bush configuration, Table 1 for dimensions and masses, Figure 2 for the installation recommendation, and Table 2 for permissible loads. It also contains a designation example and Table 3 for technology codes. The load table gives axial and radial load data, while the notes point to EN 2311 for load definitions. In practice, these tables and figures are used for design, part selection, checking installation, and verifying supplier compliance.
