Overview
prEN 2288:2026 is a draft European standard developed by CEN for the aerospace industry, specifying the properties of flanged bushes made from corrosion resistant steel with self-lubricating liners. This standard provides critical guidance for ensuring compatibility, durability, performance, and safety of these mechanical components in demanding aerospace applications. It supersedes EN 2288:2019, incorporating updates in normative references, requirements, materials, and surface treatments.
Key Topics
Product Scope and Function
The standard details flanged bushes constructed from corrosion resistant steel equipped with self-lubricating liners. These bushes are engineered to operate in a temperature range from −55°C to 163°C and are suitable for installation via interference fit in both fixed and moving aerospace assemblies.Material Requirements
- Bush materials align with EN 3490, EN 3161, WL1.4044, or equivalents.
- Liner materials must comply with EN 2311 for self-lubricating, wear-resistant performance.
- Surface treatments options include no treatment or passivation according to AMS 2700 specifications.
Dimensional and Load Parameters
prEN 2288 provides approved configuration details, standard sizes, and permissible radial and axial loads for various bush dimensions. Tables specify both static and dynamic load capacities, ensuring the correct selection for specific structural and operational demands.Marking and Technical Documentation
Marking protocols conform to EN 2424, requiring clear identification of both the bush and its packaging, including details on liner technology and surface treatment.Design and Mounting Recommendations
Installation by interference fit is mandatory, with specific shaft and housing recommendations to ensure load performance. The shaft hardness should be a minimum of 50 HRC for the optimal function of the bush.Quality Management
Manufacturing should align with recognized aerospace quality systems such as EN 9100, ensuring consistent compliance and traceability across the supply chain.
Applications
Aircraft Structures
Flanged bushes designed to this standard are widely used in critical assemblies where high strength, low maintenance, and corrosion resistance are necessary, such as in landing gear, flaps, and control surfaces.Rotorcraft and Spacecraft
The self-lubricating liner and stainless steel construction make these bushes suitable for aircraft and spacecraft requiring prolonged wear life and minimal lubrication in hard-to-access areas.Interference Fit Mechanical Joints
The standard’s design recommendations ensure optimal performance in joints where precision and durability under cyclic loads are essential.General Aerospace Fasteners
While specialized for the aerospace sector, these bushes can also provide added value in other high-performance engineering fields that demand reliability under extreme environmental conditions.
Related Standards
For complete design, specification, and procurement of flanged bushes, prEN 2288 should be considered alongside the following standards:
- EN 2311: Aerospace series – Bushes with self-lubricating liner – Technical specification
- EN 2424: Aerospace series – Marking of aerospace products
- EN 3161: Aerospace series – Steel FE-PM3801 – Specifications for bar and rod material
