V tem standardu so obravnavani tudi transformatorji z vgrajenimi elektronskimi vezji. Če ni navedeno drugače, izraz transformator v nadaljevanju zajema ločilne transformatorje z visoko izolacijsko stopnjo in ločilne transformatorje z izhodnimi napetostmi nad 1000 V izmeničnega napajanja ali 1500 V enosmernega napajanja.

Overview
EN 61558-2-10:2014 (IEC 61558-2-10:2014) is the European/CENELEC adoption of the IEC standard that defines particular safety requirements and tests for separating transformers with high insulation level and for separating transformers with output voltages exceeding 1 000 V. It covers transformers that incorporate electronic circuits and extends the scope to include power supply units. This Part 2-10 is intended to be used together with EN/IEC 61558-1 (general requirements and tests) and replaces earlier Chapter II Section Three of IEC 60989 (1991).
Key topics and requirements
EN 61558-2-10 supplements and modifies EN/IEC 61558-1 to address high-voltage and high-insulation separating transformers. Major technical topics include:
- Insulation, dielectric strength and leakage current - specific requirements and test procedures for high insulation levels.
- Creepage and clearance distances - requirements for safe spacing through and over insulation for high secondary voltages.
- Marking, ratings and output characteristics - information required on nameplates and documentation for devices with secondary voltages >1 000 V.
- Protection against electric shock - construction and testing measures to limit risk from high-voltage outputs.
- Heating, short-circuit and overload protection - thermal limits and protective provisions for windings and components.
- Mechanical strength and construction - structural requirements for safe operation and mounting.
- Ingress protection, internal wiring and components - requirements for durability, wiring integrity and component selection in high-voltage environments.
- Test specifications - normative tests (dielectric tests, heating tests, mechanical tests) and additional annexes that supplement Part 1’s procedures.
(Note: use EN/IEC 61558-1 alongside this part for full test and design rules.)
Practical applications
EN 61558-2-10 is directly applicable to the design, manufacture and testing of:
- Separating (isolation) transformers with high insulation levels or secondary voltages above 1 000 V.
- Power supply units that include isolated high-voltage outputs or embedded isolating transformers.
- Reactors and assemblies where isolation and high secondary voltages present specific safety concerns.
Typical use cases include high-voltage control systems, industrial power equipment, and specialized power-conversion devices where robust isolation and safety verification are required.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
services carried out by independent certification bodies.
6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
Publications.

The article discusses the safety standards for transformers and power supply units. It specifically focuses on separating transformers with high insulation levels and those with output voltages exceeding 1000 V. The standard applies to both stationary and portable transformers, whether single-phase or polyphase, and whether air-cooled or not. Transformers with internal operational frequencies not exceeding 500 Hz are covered by this standard. It also applies to transformers and power supplies with internal frequencies higher than 500 Hz when combined with another standard. The rated supply voltage should not exceed 1000 V AC, and the rated output should not exceed 25 kVA for single-phase transformers or 40 kVA for polyphase transformers. However, there is no limitation on the rated output if there is an agreement between the buyer and the manufacturer. The standard does not cover transformers specified in IEC 60076-11, neon transformers covered by IEC 61050, and power supplies and converters specified in IEC 61347-2-10. It also does not cover the external circuits and components connected to the input and output terminals of the transformers. These transformers are meant for applications where double or reinforced insulation is not required.
