This European Standard specifies safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of power take-off (PTO) drive shafts and their guards linking self-propelled machinery (or tractor) to the first fixed bearing of recipient machinery, by describing methods for the elimination or reduction of risks which need specific requirements. This standard concerns only the PTO drive shafts and those guards which are mechanically linked to the PTO drive shaft by at least two bearings.
In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe working practices to be provided by the manufacturer.
This standard does not deal with:
- the guards totally covering, but not mechanically linked to the PTO drive shaft. As these devices are not at present widely established on the market, they should be dealt with in a future revision of this standard;
- the mechanical characteristics of PTO drive shafts, overrun devices and torque limiters;
- general hazards.

This standard specifies all organisational and technical requirements and means of verification to comply with the EU Regulation 167/2013 and its Delegated Acts with the objectives to allow the fair competition between manufacturers and between operators and to improve the competitiveness and future viability of companies with special regard to Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME).
This standard is applicable to agricultural and forestry vehicles approved (respectively to be approved) in accordance with the EU Regulation 167/2013.
This standard is not applicable to small series vehicles.

This International Standard specifies a method for the measuring and reporting of the noise at the
operator(s) position of a tractor used in agriculture and forestry. The measured noise relates only to the
basic machine and applies to tractors with machine-carried operators. The results provide information
to the operator(s) in order to avoid exposing themselves to noise levels that could put their hearing at
risk.
The conditions specified for the operation of the machines during the measurements are defined to
provide a realistic and repeatable assessment of the maximum noise an operator should be subjected
to when operating a machine. The test procedures specified in this International Standard are survey
methods as defined in ISO 12001.

This part of ISO 11001 specifies the essential dimensions for the attachment of three-point hitch
implements to agricultural wheeled and track-laying tractors equipped with a three-point free link
hitch according to ISO 730 or ISO 8759-1 and a U-frame hitch coupler.
NOTE In general the dimensions associated with the tractor and implement for use with hitch couplers are
the same as those for the three-point linkage specified in ISO 730 or ISO 8759-1, and those for the clearance zone
specified in ISO 2332.
The three-point hitch coupler systems constitute a special method of implement mounting. The hitch
couplers are an additional component located between the three-point linkage and the implement,
making it possible to hitch and unhitch from the operator’s seat. Due to the special construction and
function of hitch couplers, it can be necessary to vary the length of the upper and lower links indicated
in the referenced standards.
This part of ISO 11001 applies to categories 1, 2N, 2, 3N, 3, 4N, and 4 of agricultural wheeled and tracklaying
tractors as defined in ISO 730 or ISO 8759-1.

to be provided by the manufacturer.
This document deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations and events, as listed in Annex A,
relevant to this agricultural machinery when used as intended and under the conditions of misuse
foreseeable by the manufacturer during normal operation and service.
This part of ISO 4254 is not applicable to
— agricultural or forestry tractors,
— aircraft and air-cushion vehicles used in agriculture,
— lawn and garden equipment,
— machine-specific components or functions (e.g. working tools and/or processes).
This part of ISO 4254 is not applicable to hazards related to periodic service, machine conversion and
repairs intended to be carried out by professional service personnel, environmental hazards, road safety
(e.g. steering, braking), or to the power take-off (PTO) drive shaft; neither is it applicable to guards of
moving parts for power transmission except for strength requirements for guards and barriers.
This part of ISO 4254 is not applicable to machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication.
Not all of the hazards dealt with by this part of ISO 4254 are necessarily present on a particular machine.
A risk assessment should be carried out by the manufacturer to determine the hazards that are applicable
and any hazards in addition to those dealt with by this part or a relevant machine-specific part. The
requirements of a machine-specific part of ISO 4254 take precedence over the requirements of this part.

requirements that relate to the protection and safety of operators and bystanders on machines with onboard
voltages in the range of 50 V AC to 1000 V AC and 75 V DC to 1500 V DC. This part of ISO 16230
applies to electrical equipment and parts of the electrical equipment on such machines and includes
general requirements related to the protection and safety of operators, bystanders, and first responders.
This part of ISO 16230 deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events, as listed in
Annex A, relevant to this agricultural machinery when used as intended and under the conditions of
misuse foreseeable by the manufacturer during normal operation and service.
This part of ISO 16230 is not applicable to the following:
— specific design elements of external interfaces (e.g. the interface between a tractor and implement);
— externally powered equipment (e.g. line powered equipment, equipment without on-board
power generation);
— purpose built forestry machines;
— stationary electrical generators.
This part of ISO 16230 is not applicable to machines which are manufactured before the date of its
publication.
