Advanced technical ceramics - Mechanical properties of ceramic composites at room temperature - Part 5: Determination of interlaminar shear strength by short span bend test (three points)

This part of EN 658 specifies the conditions for the determination of the interlaminar shear strength matrix composite materials with continuous fibre reinforcement at ambient temperature, by subjecting a test specimen to a short-span, three points, bend test. The method applies to unidirectionally and bidirectionally reinforced ceramic matrix composites, as well as to tridirectional composites with weak reinforcement in the third direction.

In diesem Teil von prEN 658 sind die Bedingungen zu Bestimmung der interlaminaren Scherfestigkeit von endlosfaserverstärkten Verbundwerkstoffen mit keramischer Matrix bei Raumtemperatur durch Belastung von Proben mit kurzem Auflagerabstand im Drei-Punkt-Biegeversuch festgelegt. Dieses Verfahren ist für endlosfaserverstärkte keramische Verbundwerkstoffe mit unidirektionaler, bidirektionaler und bei tridirektionaler Faserverstärkung mit schwacher Verstärkung in der dritten Richtung anzuwenden.

La présente partie de cette Norme européenne spécifie les conditions de la détermination de la résistance au cisaillement interlaminaire des matériaux composites a matrice céramique a renfort continu, a la température ambiante, en soumettant une éprouvette a un essai de flexion sur appuis rapprochés (trois points). Cette méthode s'applique a tous les composites a matrice céramique a renforts continus unidirectionnels (1D), bidirectionnels (2D) et tridirectionnels, (xD, avec 2 < x < 3), définis dans l'ENV 13233.
Deux autres méthodes de détermination de la résistance au cisaillement sont données dans les autres parties de l'EN 658.
NOTE 1   Les caractéristiques de cisaillement interlaminaire peuvent varier de maniere non négligeable selon la préparation et les dimensions de l'éprouvette, la vitesse d'application de la force d'essai, l'aspect de la surface, etc.
NOTE 2   Cependant, les résultats obtenus dans la présente partie de l'EN 658 ne peuvent etre comparés avec les résultats obtenus selon les deux autres méthodes.
NOTE 3   Il convient d'etre prudent en interprétant les résultats de la méthode proposée pour obtenir des valeurs absolues de la résistance au cisaillement interlaminaire des composites a matrice céramique a des fins de conception.

This document (EN 658-5:2002) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN /TC 184, "Advanced technical
ceramics", the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or
by endorsement, at the latest by June 2003, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by
June 2003.
This document supersedes ENV 658-5:1993.
