This European Standard specifies requirements for laminate floor coverings with an acrylic based surface layer (as defined in Clause 3).
It includes a classification system based on EN 685, giving practical requirements for areas of use and levels of use, to indicate where laminate floor coverings will give satisfactory service and to encourage the consumer to make an informed choice. It also specifies requirements for marking and packaging.
Laminate floor coverings are considered for domestic and commercial levels of use. This standard does not specify requirements related to areas that are subjected to frequent wetting, such as bathrooms, laundry rooms or saunas, but the products covered by this standard are applicable for use in domestic kitchens.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen an Laminatböden mit einer Deckschicht auf Acryl-Basis fest (wie in Abschnitt 3 definiert).
Sie enthält ein Klassifizierungssystem, das auf EN 685 basiert, mit praktischen Anforderungen für bestimmte Verwendungsbereiche und Beanspruchungsklassen. Dies dient dazu aufzuzeigen, in welchen Bereichen
Laminatböden zufrieden stellend eingesetzt werden können, sowie dazu, den Verbraucher in die Lage zu versetzen, informiert eine Auswahl zu treffen. Sie legt ebenfalls Anforderungen an Kennzeichnung und Verpackung fest.
Für Laminatböden werden die Anwendungsgebiete Wohnen und Gewerblich berücksichtigt. Diese Norm legt keine Anforderungen für Bereiche fest, die regelmäßig Nässe ausgesetzt sind (wie etwa Badezimmer, Hauswirtschaftsräume oder Saunen); die Produkte nach dieser Norm sind jedoch zur Verwendung in Küchen im Wohnbereich geeignet.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie des exigences relatives aux revetements de sol stratifiés a parement
a base acrylique (tels que définis dans l’Article 3).
Elle comprend un systeme de classification fondé sur l’EN 685 qui donne les exigences pratiques relatives
aux zones et niveaux d'utilisation, afin d'indiquer les cas ou les revetements de sol stratifiés peuvent etre
utilisés de maniere satisfaisante et ainsi encourager un choix avisé du consommateur. Elle spécifie également
les exigences relatives au marquage et a l'emballage.
Les revetements de sol stratifiés sont destinés a des usages domestiques et commerciaux. La présente
norme ne spécifie pas les exigences relatives aux zones présentant des risques d’humidification fréquente,
comme les salles de bain, les buanderies ou les saunas ; en revanche, les produits couverts par la présente
norme peuvent etre utilisés dans des cuisines domestiques.

EN 14978:2006 (E) 3 Foreword This document (EN 14978:2006) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 134 “CEN/TC 134 Resilient, textile and laminate floor coverings”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2006, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by December 2006.
