Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
Amendment 1 to ISO 14405-1:2010 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 213, Dimensional and
geometrical product specification and verification.

DRAFT AMENDMENT ISO 14405-1:2010/DAM 1

Geometrical product specifications (GPS) — Dimensional

st
Page 1, Scope, replace 1 sentence with:
“This part of ISO 14405 establishes the default specification operator for linear size and defines a number of
special specification operators for linear size for features of size i.e. "cylinder", "two parallel opposite planes",
"sphere", "circle" or "two parallel opposite straight lines".
For direct global linear size, add in the list “minimum zone size” after “minimum circumscribed size”,
At the end of the list, after range size, add:
"- quadratic range of sizes. "

Page 3, definition 3.2, replace note 3 with:
NOTE 3 Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a feature of size, type cylinder or two parallel opposite planes.
Page 3, definition 3.2, add the following note
NOTE 4 The features of linear size can be a cylinder, a sphere, two parallel opposite planes, a circle (cross section of a
revolute surface and a plane perpendicular to the axis of the revolute surface), two parallel opposite straight lines
(longitudinal section of a surface and a plane which is symmetrical to the axis for a revolute surface or a plane
perpendicular to symmetry plane of a prismatic surface).

Page 7, Figure 3 d) delete the right side view
Add the following note: "Any section size is given by the diameter of maximum inscribed circle defined in any
cross section".
Move the NOTE of Figure 3e) to the bottom of the figure before the title.

Page 5, replace definition 3.6 with the following:
"specification operator required by technical documentation, applicable only for all ISO basic GPS
specifications of the actual drawing, and containing only default specification operations in the default order"

Page 8, add a new definition
