Tests for thermal and weathering properties of aggregates - Part 1: Determination of resistance to freezing and thawing
This European Standard specifies a test method which provides information on how an aggregate behaves when it is subjected to the cyclic action of freezing and thawing.
NOTE The stresses on aggregates due to frost depend, amongst other factors, on the degree of water saturation as well as the rate of cooling.
The results provide a means for assessing an aggregate's resistance to this form of weathering.
The test is applicable to aggregates having a particle size between 4 mm and 63 mm.

Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Prüfverfahren fest, das aussagt, wie sich eine Gesteinskörnung verhält, wenn sie zyklischen Frost-Tau-Wechseln ausgesetzt wird.
ANMERKUNG Die Beanspruchung der Gesteinskörnung infolge von Frost hängt neben weiteren Faktoren sowohl vom Grad der Wassersättigung als auch von der Abkühlgeschwindigkeit ab.
Die Prüfergebnisse ermöglichen es, die Widerstandsfähigkeit einer Gesteinskörnung gegen diese Art der
Witterungsbeanspruchung abzuschätzen.
Diese Prüfung kann auf Gesteinskörnungen mit einer Korngröße zwischen 4 mm und 63 mm angewendet werden.

La présente norme européenne spécifie une méthode d'essai permettant de fournir des données sur le comportement du granulat lorsqu'il est soumis a des cycles de gel-dégel.
NOTE Les contraintes subies par les granulats en cas de gel dépendent, entre autres facteurs, du degré de saturation en eau et de la vitesse de refroidissement.
Les résultats permettent une évaluation de la résistance du granulat a cette forme d'altération.
L'essai est applicable aux granulats d'une granularité comprise entre 4 mm et 63 mm.

Test laboratories can determine the time required to achieve constant mass for specific types and sizes of sample dependent upon the drying capacity of the oven used.
