SIST EN 300 468 V1.20.1:2026
(Main)Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) - Specification for Service Information (SI) in DVB systems
General Information
- Abstract
The present document specifies the Service Information (SI) data which forms a part of Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) bitstreams, in order that the user can be provided with information to assist in selection of services and/or events within the bitstream, and so that the Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD) can automatically configure itself for the selected service. SI data for automatic configuration is mostly specified within ISO/IEC 13818-1 [1] as Program Specific Information (PSI). The present document specifies additional data which complements the PSI by providing data to aid automatic tuning of IRDs, and additional information intended for display to the user. The manner of presentation of the information is not specified in the present document, and IRD manufacturers have freedom to choose appropriate presentation methods. It is expected that Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) will be a feature of Digital TeleVision (TV) transmissions. The definition of an EPG is outside the scope of the present document (i.e. the SI specification), but the data contained within the SI specified in the present document may be used as the basis for an EPG. Rules of operation for the implementation of the present document are specified in ETSI TS 101 211 [i.1].

ETSI EN 300 468 V1.20.1 (2026-09) - Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB); Specification for Service Information (SI) in DVB systems
Overview
SIST EN 300 468 V1.20.1:2026 is the European Standard for Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) Service Information (SI) in DVB systems. Published under the SIST reference REN/JTC-DVB-419, this standard defines how service information is structured and signalled across DVB environments, helping receivers identify, interpret, and present broadcast services correctly.
This document is highly relevant for professionals working with broadcasting, digital TV, MPEG, service signalling, and video delivery. It supports consistent DVB interoperability by specifying the information carried in service tables and descriptors used by receivers, multiplex operators, and service providers.
Key Topics
The standard provides a detailed framework for DVB Service Information (SI), including:
- Service information tables such as:
- Network Information Table
- Service Description Table
- Event Information Table
- Time and Date Table
- Time Offset Table
- Running Status Table
- Descriptor definitions used to describe services, events, networks, delivery systems, and regional or multilingual signalling
- Table mechanisms covering section handling, transport stream packet mapping, PID and table_id coding, repetition rates, and scrambling
- Extended descriptors for newer DVB signalling needs, including support for:
- Audio preselection
- Image icons
- URI linkage
- Target region information
- Service prominence
- Storage Media Interoperability measures, including tables and descriptors for partial transport streams and discontinuity handling
- Normative annexes covering text characters, audio codecs, service_type interpretation, and supplementary audio signalling
A key value of this standard is that it helps ensure accurate service discovery, event guide presentation, audio and subtitle signalling, and receiver compatibility in DVB systems.
Applications
SIST EN 300 468 V1.20.1:2026 is used in practical DVB implementations where reliable signalling is essential, including:
- Digital television services and electronic programme guides
- Broadcast network planning and multiplex management
- Receiver and set-top box interoperability
- Regional and multilingual service presentation
- Audio, subtitle, and accessibility signalling
- Delivery system identification across cable, satellite, and terrestrial platforms
- Support for advanced codecs and modern DVB service types
For broadcasters and platform operators, the standard provides a common signalling model that improves service discovery and presentation across DVB deployments.
Related Standards
This document is closely aligned with other DVB and ETSI deliverables in the broadcast ecosystem, including standards covering:
- DVB system specification and transport stream signalling
- MPEG-based broadcast infrastructure
- Audio codec signalling such as AC-3, Enhanced AC-3, AC-4, DTS, and AAC
- Service type assignment and interpretation
- Supplementary audio and accessibility metadata
Together, these standards form the technical basis for interoperable digital broadcasting, service information signalling, and modern DVB receiver performance.

Foreword
This draft European Standard (EN) has been produced by Joint Technical Committee (JTC) Broadcast of the European
Broadcasting Union (EBU), Comité Européen de Normalisation ELECtrotechnique (CENELEC) and the European
Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), and is now submitted for the combined Public Enquiry and Vote phase
of the ETSI EN Approval Procedure (ENAP).
NOTE: The EBU/ETSI JTC Broadcast was established in 1990 to co-ordinate the drafting of standards in the
specific field of broadcasting and related fields. Since 1995 the JTC Broadcast became a tripartite body
by including in the Memorandum of Understanding also CENELEC, which is responsible for the
standardization of radio and television receivers. The EBU is a professional association of broadcasting
organizations whose work includes the co-ordination of its members' activities in the technical, legal,
programme-making and programme-exchange domains. The EBU has active members in about
60 countries in the European broadcasting area; its headquarters is in Geneva.
