Overview
SIST ETS 300 133-6 E1:2003 sets forth the requirements for base stations in the European Radio Message System (ERMES) as part of the broader suite of Paging Systems (PS) standards. Developed by the Slovenski inštitut za standardizacijo (SIST) and technically aligned with ETSI standards, this document provides specifications for conformance, ensuring interoperability, reliability, and performance for base stations used within ERMES networks throughout Europe.
This standard is essential for manufacturers, operators, and regulators involved in deploying, managing, or certifying ERMES base stations, as it defines radio frequency (RF) characteristics, synchronization requirements, transmitter operations, and network integration capabilities.
Keywords: Paging systems, ERMES, base station conformance, transmitter requirements, synchronization, RF characteristics, SIST, ETSI, European standard.
Key Topics
- General Requirements: Specifies the functional and operational characteristics for base stations, describing necessary components such as transmitters, control, and timing equipment.
- Base Station Model: Details definitions and configurations for base stations, including transmitter operation on designated ERMES channels and integration with network controllers.
- Transmitter Requirements: Covers RF requirements such as frequency tolerances, modulation methods, symbol rate, and spectrum masks. Ensures transmitters meet strict criteria for performance and signal integrity.
- Synchronization Requirements: Specifies timing, sequencing, and synchronization protocols vital for robust operation in ERMES networks, including handling batch transmissions and channel assignments.
- Base Station Network Functions: Defines the interactions between base stations and higher-level network components like the Paging Area Controller (PAC), ensuring smooth data, control, and maintenance communications through standardized interfaces.
Applications
The standard serves numerous practical purposes in the telecommunications sector:
- Base Station Development: Acts as a technical reference for manufacturers designing and certifying ERMES-compliant base stations, helping to assure compatibility and marketability within European paging systems.
- Network Deployment: Provides guidelines for installation and integration of base stations into public or private paging networks, streamlining network expansion and maintenance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Bolsters conformance assessment processes, aiding network operators and certification bodies to verify that installations meet relevant European requirements.
- Operational Optimization: Supports service providers by defining requirements that improve message delivery reliability, system synchronization, and network resilience in paging systems.
- Interoperability Assurance: Ensures that components from different vendors can work together, facilitating multi-vendor network implementation and future-proof system design.
Related Standards
This part is one of a suite of standards for ERMES Paging Systems. Relevant standards in the series and related technical documents include:
- SIST ETS 300 133-1: General aspects of Paging Systems (PS); ERMES
