EN 2591-603:2002 (Aerospace series) defines a test method to detect change of power distribution caused by optical connection elements - including connectors, permanent splices, optical contacts and fibre optic couplers. The standard targets mode-selective loss mechanisms and uneven distribution of coupled modes that alter the far-field radiation pattern of an optical fibre. It is intended to be used together with EN 2591-100 (general test arrangements) and referenced alongside EN 2591-601 (insertion loss configurations).

    • Compare pre- and post-insertion curves; changes must meet the product standard’s permitted limits.
