Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys - Determination of thickness of anodic oxidation coatings - Non-destructive measurement by split-beam microscope (ISO 2128:2010)

This International Standard specifies a non-destructive method for determining the thickness of anodic oxidation coatings on aluminium and its alloys using a split-beam microscope. The method is applicable, in most industrial cases, to anodic oxidation coatings above 10 μm, or above 5 μm when the surface is smooth. The use of the method specified is limited by the need for the two luminous lines described in Clause 3 to be visible and distinctly separated, i.e. not in the case of opaque or dark-coloured coatings.

Diese Internationale Norm legt ein zerstörungsfreies Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Dicke anodisch erzeugter
Oxidschichten auf Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen unter Einsatz eines Lichtschnittmikroskops fest.
Das Verfahren ist anwendbar für die meisten industriell anodisch erzeugten Oxidschichten über 10 μm oder
bei glatten Oberflächen über 5 μm.
Die Anwendung des beschriebenen Verfahrens ist nur möglich, wenn die beiden in Abschnitt 3 beschriebenen
Lichtbänder gut sichtbar und eindeutig voneinander getrennt sind, d. h. nicht bei opaken oder dunkel
gefärbten Schichten.
ANMERKUNG Probleme können auch durch die Oberflächenrauheit auftreten.

L'ISO 2128:2010 spécifie une méthode non destructive pour déterminer l'épaisseur des couches anodiques sur l'aluminium et ses alliages en utilisant un microscope à coupe optique.
Cette méthode est applicable, dans la plupart des cas industriels, aux couches anodiques d'épaisseur supérieure à 10 µm, ou supérieure à 5 µm lorsque la surface est lisse.
L'utilisation de la méthode spécifiée est limitée par la nécessité que les deux lignes lumineuses décrites dans le principe soient visibles et nettement séparées, c'est-à-dire qu'elle n'est pas applicable aux couches opaques ou de couleurs sombres.

Ta mednarodni standard določa neporušitveno metodo za ugotavljanje debeline anodno oskidiranih prevlek na aluminiju in njegovih zlitinah z uporabo interferenčnega mikroskopa. Metoda v večini industrijskih primerov velja za anodne oksidirane prevleke nad 10 μm, ali nad 5 μm, če je površina gladka. Uporaba metode je omejena s potrebo po dveh vidnih in jasno ločenih svetlobnih črtah, opisanih v točki 3, tj. ni uporabna pri neprozornih ali temnih prevlekah.

The text of ISO 2128:2010 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 79 "Light metals and their
alloys" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as
EN ISO 2128:2010 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 132 “Aluminium and aluminium alloys” the secretariat of
which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2011, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by March 2011.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent

This document supersedes EN 12373-3:1998.
