Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-49: Particular requirements for commercial electric appliances for keeping food and crockery warm
Deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial hot cupboards not intended for household use. The rated voltage being not more than 250 V for sigle-phase appliances conencted between one phase and neutral, and 480 V for other appliances. Hot cupboards with heated tops, heated display cases, heated crockery dispensers and heated shelves and tables are also within the scope of this standard. The appliances within the scope of this standard are typically used in restaurants, canteens, hospitals and similar commercial enterprises. The electrical part of appliance making use of other forms of energy is also within the scope of this standard.

Standard obravnava varnost električno upravljanih komercialnih grelnih omar, ki niso namenjene gospodinjski uporabi. Nazivna napetost mora biti manjša od 250 V za enofazne aparate, priključene med fazo in nevtralni vodnik, in 480 V za ostale aparate. Tudi grelne omare z ogrevanim vrhnjim delom, ogrevanimi vitrinami, ogrevanimi delilniki posode ter ogrevanimi policami in mizami spadajo v področje uporabe tega standarda. Aparati, ki spadajo v področje uporabe tega standarda, se običajno uporabljajo v restavracijah, menzah, bolnišnicah in podobnih komercialnih podjetjih. Tudi električni del aparatov, ki uporabljajo druge vire energije, spada v področje uporabe tega standarda.

This amendment A11 modifies the European Standard EN 60335-2-49:2003; it was approved by CENELEC on
2011-12-21. CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which
stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any alteration.
Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on
application to the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre or to any CENELEC member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language
made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to the
CEN-CENELEC Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

This amendment supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of EN 60335-1:2012, EN 60335-2-
49:2003 and EN 60335-2-49:2003/A1:2008.

Introduction
Replace the addition of CENELEC common modifications by the following:
The principle objectives of Low Voltage Directive, 2006/95/EC, are covered in this standard. The essential
safety requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have also been taken into account for appliances
covered by this part.
1 Scope
Add the following paragraph before NOTE 101:
Additional requirements for appliances with power driven moving parts are given in Annex ZE.
Replace the NOTE 103 by the following text:
This standard does not apply to
– machines designed exclusively for industrial purposes,
– machines intended to be used in locations where a corrosive or an explosive atmosphere is present (dust, vapour or gas),
– continuous process machines for the mass production of food,
– machinery for processing cosmetics, chemicals and pharmaceutical products,
– bains-maries (IEC 60335-2-50).
3 Definitions

Appliances are operated empty and with any controls intended to be operated by the user set at the
maximum.
If the appliance cannot be operated empty, then the manufacturer's instructions are taken into account.
Doors, covers or lids, if any, are placed in their intended positions.
Motors incorporated in the appliance are operated in the intended manner under the most severe conditions
that can be expected in normal use taking into account the manufacturer's instructions.
Appliances incorporating induction heating sources are operated with the induction crockery placed on
induction trays. All tray supports are loaded, but partial up to full load shall be possible.
All controls are set to maximum, and the induction crockery is half-filled with initially cold water. Covers
(cloches) are in their position.
