Bituminous mixtures - Test methods for hot mix asphalt - Part 7: Determination of bulk density of bituminous specimens by gamma rays

This standard defines a method for measuring the bulk density of pavement materials using a transmission-type gamma radiation test bench. This standard applies to specimens or core samples, the thickness of which is known as well as the mass absorption coefficient which is a function of the chemical composition. The thickness of the specimen body traversed by the radiation shall be between 3 and 30 cm. The method cannot be applied to materials containing slags, with variable metal conten, affecting the absorption of gamma rays.

Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren fest, mit dem die Raumdichten von Asphalt-Probekörpern gemessen werden können, wenn eine Durchstrahlungs- einrichtung mit Gamma-Strahlung verwendet wird. Die Norm kann für Probekörper oder Ausbaustücke angewendet werden, deren Dicke ebenso bekannt sein muß wie der Massenabsorptionskoeffizient, der von der chemischen Zusammensetzung abhängt. Die Dicke des Probekörpers, der bei der Messung von Gamma-Strahlen durchdrungen wird, muß zwischen 3 und 30 cm betragen.

La présente Norme européenne décrit une méthode de mesurage de la masse volumique apparente pour les matériaux constitutifs de chaussées a l'aide d'un banc a émission de rayons gamma.
L'applicabilité de la présente Norme européenne est décrite dans les normes de produits pour les mélanges bitumineux.
NOTE   Les regles de sécurité pour l'utilisation de banc gamma peuvent etre appliquées.
Cette norme s'applique a des éprouvettes cylindriques ou a des blocs préparés en laboratoire ou extraits de la chaussée pour lesquels l'épaisseur et le coefficient d'absorption massique, qui est fonction de la composition chimique, sont connus. L'épaisseur du corps d'épreuve traversé par le rayonnement peut etre comprise entre 30 mm et 300 mm. Cette méthode ne s'applique pas aux mélanges contenant des laitiers ayant une teneur en métal ou une composition chimique variables susceptibles de modifier l'absorption des rayons gamma.

It can be included in a series of tests carried out on a given sample. It allows the plotting of a densitychart or gradient.1 ScopeThis European Standard specifies a method for measuring the bulk density of pavement mixtures using atransmission-type gamma radiation test bench.The applicability of this European Standard is described in the product standards for bituminous mixtures.NOTEThe safety regulations applicable to the use of gamma rays should be applied.This standard is applicable to cylindrical specimens or blocks, prepared in a laboratory or cut from a pavement, forwhich the thickness and the mass absorption coefficient, which is a function of the chemical composition areknown. The thickness of the specimen traversed by the radiation should be between 30 mm and 300 mm.
