SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 is the Slovenian publication of ETSI I-ETS 300 491-3 Edition 1. It specifies an Abstract Test Suite (ATS) for conformance testing of Terminal Equipment (TE) file transfer over the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), restricted to ETS 300 075 within the EUROFILE profile of ETS 300 383. It is written for test laboratories, manufacturers, and project teams that need a common way to check protocol behavior and record results.
What does SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 specify?
SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 specifies the common conformance testing aspects for ETS 300 075 when used with ETS 300 383. The document organizes those tests into a test specification based on ISO/IEC 9646 and ETSI test rules, with the ATS in Annex A and the reporting and setup proformas in Annexes B to E.
The structure is:
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| A | Abstract Test Suite in graphical and machine-processable TTCN forms |
| B | PIXIT proforma for test setup information |
| C | Protocol Conformance Test Report proforma |
| D | System Conformance Test Report proforma |
| E | System Conformance Statement proforma |
| F | Additional selected test cases from lower-layer conformance specifications |
| G | Conformance test case count |
| H | Bibliography |
The scope also points to companion work for the ETS 300 383-specific parts in I-ETS 300 490-3.
What are the key requirements of SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003?
SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 defines how to test the EUROFILE-restricted file transfer behavior and how to prepare the implementation for those tests. The most important points are the test method, the lower-layer prerequisites, the required test setup data, and the ATS conventions that keep test results consistent.
Test method and observation points
Clause 5 uses the remote multi layer test method. The lower tester (LT) controls and observes the implementation under test (IUT) through the main point of control and observation (PCO1), with PCO2 used only for specific Syntax-Based Videotex observations. In practice, this means the ATS focuses on protocol data and parameters, not on the human interface.
Lower-layer and protocol prerequisites
Clause 6.2 requires the lower layers to be valid before this ATS is used. It points to the relevant ISDN layer 1, layer 2, and layer 3 specifications and states that no supplementary service tests are included. Clause 6.3 applies the end-to-end protocol requirements from ETS 300 383 without extra rules. In practice, a laboratory must verify the supporting ISDN stack first.
IUT preparation for testing
Clause 6.4 requires the tester to configure the IUT with a fixed file set, an access control list, and a corresponding phone book. This matters because many test cases assume known files, known user access, and known call details before any protocol exchange starts.
ATS conventions
Clause 7 defines naming and implementation conventions for TTCN elements, test cases, and test steps. The ATS uses these conventions to keep declarations, constraints, preambles, postambles, and checks readable and traceable. That helps tool support, log analysis, and review of conformance verdicts.
Untestable test purposes
Clause 8 lists test purposes that are not implemented in the ATS because of the assumed or unspecified reaction of the IUT, or because certain services are mandatory in the EUROFILE profile. In practice, these cases should be recorded as untestable rather than forced into the campaign.
What terms does SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 define?
- Abstract Test Suite (ATS) - the TTCN test suite that contains the test cases used to assess conformance.
- Abstract Test Method (ATM) - the test arrangement that describes where the tester observes and controls the IUT.
- Implementation Under Test (IUT) - the protocol implementation being tested.
- System Under Test (SUT) - the full system that contains the IUT.
- Point of Control and Observation (PCO) - the interface where test stimuli and observations are made.
- Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - the statement of what a protocol implementation claims to support.
- Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT) - the extra configuration information needed to run the tests.
Who uses SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003?
SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 is used by conformance test laboratories, equipment manufacturers, and client organizations that need to test or procure EUROFILE file transfer implementations. It is also used by engineers and quality managers preparing test files, PIXIT data, reports, and conformance statements for ISDN terminal equipment.
What changed in SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 from the previous edition?
SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 is identical to I-ETS 300 491-3 Edition 1. The history identifies it as the first edition published in September 1996.
Which standards are used with SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003?
SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 relies on ETS 300 075 and ETS 300 383 as the base file transfer and EUROFILE profile specifications. It also uses ETS 300 012, ETS 300 011, ETS 300 125, ETS 300 102-1, ETS 300 080, ETS 300 079, I-ETS 300 491-1, I-ETS 300 491-2, I-ETS 300 490-3, I-ETS 300 236, ISO/IEC 9646-3, and ISO/IEC 9646-5 for the supporting layer behavior, test methodology, and reporting framework.
What does the SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003 document contain?
The document contains the ATS in Annex A in both TTCN graphical and machine-processable form. It also contains proformas for PIXIT, Protocol Conformance Test Report, System Conformance Test Report, and System Conformance Statement, which are the forms laboratories and clients use to prepare and document a conformance campaign.
Annex F points to selected test cases from lower-layer conformance specifications, so the ATS can be used with the supporting ISDN and Syntax-Based Videotex checks. Annex G summarizes the conformance test case groups, and Annex H gives the bibliography used by the document.

Page 7I-ETS 300 491-3: September 1996ForewordPart 3 of this Interim European Telecommunication Standard (I-ETS) has been produced by the TerminalEquipment (TE) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).An ETSI standard may be given I-ETS status either because it is regarded as a provisional solution aheadof a more advanced standard, or because it is immature and requires a "trial period". The life of anI-ETS is limited to three years after which it can be converted into an ETS, have its life extended for afurther two years, be replaced by a new version, or be withdrawn. This part of the I-ETS provides the EUROFILE profile conformance testing specification toETS 300 383 [2]. To produce such a profile test specification an Abstract Test Suite (ATS) has beencreated for general aspects of file transfer over the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) that arerelevant for ETS 300 075 [1] and ETS 300 383 [2]. This I-ETS is not a complete conformance testspecification to ETS 300 075 [1] but is restricted to ETS 300 383 [2]. This ATS should be used for furtherproduction of complete conformance testing for ETS 300 075 [1].This is the third part of an I-ETS which comprises three parts as follows:Terminal Equipment (TE); Conformance testing for file transfer over the Integrated Services DigitalNetwork (ISDN):Part 1:ETS 300 075 Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma;Part 2:ETS 300 075 Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP);Part 3:Conformance testing for ETS 300 075 restricted by ETS 300 383 - Abstract Test Suite (ATS).Proposed announcement dateDate of adoption of this I-ETS:30 August 1996Date of latest announcement of this I-ETS (doa):31 December 1996SIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003

Page 9I-ETS 300 491-3: September 19961ScopePart 3 of this Interim European Telecommunication Standard (I-ETS) describes all the aspects ofconformance testing for ETS 300 075 [1] restricted to ETS 300 383 [2] (EUROFILE profile). Currently thisI-ETS describes only the common aspects of ETS 300 075 [1] and ETS 300 383 [2]. Specific aspects forETS 300 383 [2] are detailed in I-ETS 300 490-3 [14].The objective of this I-ETS is to provide an Abstract Test Suite (ATS) which provides conformance testsgiving a high probability of inter-operability of two EUROFILE applications from different manufacturersover the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). Thus, this test specification checks all the ProtocolData Units (PDUs) and Parameters of ETS 300 075 [1] in the context of ETS 300 383 [2].ISO/IEC 9646 is used as the basis for the test methodology. Furthermore, this I-ETS follows the specificEuropean Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) rules specified in ETS 300 406.Annex A (normative) provides the ATS in both graphical or machine processable electronic forms. TheATS describes a set of Test Cases based on the Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes given inI-ETS 300 491-2 [8].2Normative referencesPart 3 of this I-ETS incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. Thesenormative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listedhereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publicationsapply to this part of the I-ETS only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. However, the SUT needs to carryout some IUT actions at the user interface to achieve some effects on test co-ordinationprocedures. The control of the IUT is implied or informally expressed in the ATS, but noassumption shall be made regarding their feasibility or realisation.Figure 1: Abstract Test MethodSIST I-ETS 300 491-3 E1:2003
