SIST EN ISO 10535:2022 provides a comprehensive framework for the requirements and test methods associated with assistive products, specifically hoists for the transfer of persons with disabilities. Its scope effectively encompasses various types of mobile and stationary hoists, detailing classifications that include mobile hoists for transferring persons in both sitting and standing positions, as well as stationary options fixed to a structural element or free-standing. This inclusivity ensures that the standard is relevant across a wide spectrum of needs in the healthcare and rehabilitation sectors. A notable strength of this standard lies in its specificity and structured approach to requirements, which not only addresses the safety and functionality of hoists but also considers the perspectives of both the users and the attendants responsible for operating these devices. By delineating general requirements while also catering to specific product types, the standard ensures that a robust and adaptable framework is established, thus enhancing its applicability and effectiveness in real-world scenarios. The inclusion of detailed test methods further strengthens SIST EN ISO 10535:2022, ensuring that products meet essential safety and usability benchmarks. The annexes A, B, and C, which provide general recommendations, serve as valuable resources for manufacturers and designers, reinforcing best practices in the production and usage of assistive hoisting devices. However, it is worth noting the standard’s explicit boundaries, such as its exclusion of devices meant for vertical transport between building levels, as well as limitations concerning aging or corrosion assessments. This clarity allows stakeholders to understand the limitations of the document and enables focused application in the intended areas. Overall, SIST EN ISO 10535:2022 addresses critical factors necessary for enhancing the safety, efficiency, and comfort of hoist operations, making it a relevant and essential resource for manufacturers and service providers involved in assistive technology for individuals with disabilities.
