This Technical Specification specifies a method for the determination of the sodium content in fertilizer extracts by flame-emission spectrometry.
The method is applicable to EC fertilizers for which a declaration of the sodium content is provided for in Regulation (EC) Nr 2003/2003, Annex I [1].

Diese Technische Spezifikation legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Natriumgehalts in Düngemittelextrakten mit Emissions-Flammenspektrometrie fest.
Das Verfahren gilt für EG-Düngemittel, für die eine Angabe des Natriumgehalts entsprechend der Verordnung (EG) Nr. 2003/2003, Anhang I, [1], vorgeschrieben ist.

La présente Spécification technique spécifie une méthode de dosage du sodium dans des extraits
d’échantillons d’engrais par spectrométrie d'émission de flamme.
La méthode est applicable aux engrais CE pour lesquels une déclaration de la teneur en sodium est prévue
dans le Règlement (CE) n° 2003/2003, Annexe I [3].

Ta tehnična specifikacija opredeljuje metodo določevanja vsebnosti natrija v ekstraktih gnojil s plamensko emisijsko spektrometrijo. Metoda se uporablja za gnojila ES, za katera je zagotovljena deklaracija o vsebnosti natrija v Uredbi (ES) št. 2003/2003, Priloga I.

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 5 March 2011 for provisional application.
The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to submit their
comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.
CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS available
promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in parallel to the CEN/TS)
until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.

1 Scope
This Technical Specification specifies a method for the determination of the sodium content in fertilizer
extracts by flame-emission spectrometry.
The method is applicable to EC fertilizers for which a declaration of the sodium content is provided for in

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in EN 12944-1:1999 and EN 12944-2:1999
apply.
4 Principle
Following suitable dilution of the extract obtained according to CEN/TS 15960 or CEN/TS 15961, the sodium
content of the solution is determined by flame-emission spectrometry.
5 Sampling
Sampling is not part of the method specified in this document. A recommended sampling method is given in
EN 1482-1.
Sample preparation shall be carried out in accordance with EN 1482-2. Grinding of the laboratory sample is
recommended for homogeneity reasons.

4 Principle

content of the solution is determined by flame-emission spectrometry.
5 Sampling

Sample preparation shall be carried out in accordance with EN 1482-2. Grinding of the laboratory sample is
recommended for homogeneity reasons.

6 Reagents
6.1 Diluted hydrochloric acid.
Add one volume of hydrochloric acid for analysis (ρ = 1,18 g/ml) to one volume of water.

6.2 Aluminium nitrate, Al(NO ) 9H O.

6.3 Caesium chloride, CsCl.
6.4 Anhydrous sodium chloride, NaCl.
6.5 Caesium chloride and aluminium nitrate solution.
Dissolve in water 50 g of caesium chloride (6.3) and 250 g of aluminium nitrate (6.2) in a graduated flask (7.2).
Make up to volume with water and mix.
6.6 Standard sodium solution, ρ(Na) = 1 mg/ml.
Dissolve in water 2,542 g of sodium chloride (6.4) in a graduated flask (7.2). Add 10 ml of hydrochloric acid
(6.1). Make up to volume with water and mix.
6.7 Calibration solutions.
