CEN/TC 262/WG 4 - Electroplated and autocatalytic coatings

ISO 4526:2004 specifies requirements for electroplated nickel and nickel alloy coatings applied to ferrous and non-ferrous basis metals for engineering purposes.
Binary nickel alloys in which nickel is a minor constituent are outside the scope of this International Standard.
The designation provides a means of specifying the type and thickness of nickel and nickel alloy coatings appropriate for engineering applications.

ISO 6158:2011 specifies requirements for electroplated coatings of hexavalent chromium, with or without undercoats, on ferrous and non-ferrous metals for engineering purposes. The coating designation provides a means of specifying the thickness of chromium appropriate for typical engineering applications.

This European Standard establishes a method of specifying general requirements for electrodeposited coatings applied to metallic materials for corrosion protection.  This European Standard is for use in conjunction with other European Standards which specify the electrodeposited coating required, e.g., pr EN 12329 "Corrosion protection of metals - Electrodeposited coatings of zinc with supplementary treatment on iron or steel". This European Standard does not specify requirements for the condition, finish or surface roughness of the basis metal prior to the coating process.

This EN specifies requirements for  nickel, nickel plus chromium, copper plus nickel and copper plus nickel plus chromium electrodeposited coatings applied to iron and steel, to zinc alloys and to copper and copper alloys to provide an attractive appearance and corrosion resistance. The nickel and copper plus nickel coatings without chromium topcoats that are specified in this EN are suitable for applications in which tarnishing is prevented by rubbing or handling in service, or by the use of topcoats other than chromium.

This European Standard specifies requirements for electrodeposited coatings of cadmium on iron or steel with or without supplementary treatment. This European Standard does not specify chromate finishes which are required only for improving the adhesion of paints or varnishes. NOTE: This European Standard is not intended to be used alone, but is the complement of EN 1403. It is necessary for the purchaser to specify the cadmium electrodeposited coating in accordance with the designation as specified in EN 1403.

This European Standard does not specify chromate finishes which are required only for improving the adhesion of paints or varnishes. NOTE: This European Standard is not intended to be usedalone, but is the complement of EN 1403. It is necessary for the purchaser to specify the zinc electrodeposited coating in accordance with the designation as specified in EN 1403.
