CEN/TC 139/WG 8 - Powder organic coatings for hot-dip-galvanized steel products

This European Standard specifies the agreements to be made between the client, the galvanizer / sherardizer, the chemical suppliers and the applicators of the pre-treatment and the powder organic coating systems (if they are not one and the same). It also specifies the quality of the galvanized or sherardized articles to which the powder organic coatings are to be applied and for the pre-treatment and powder organic coatings intended for application to the galvanized or sherardized articles.
This standard applies to the application of hot dip galvanized, sherardized and powder organic coatings by controlled industrial processes to articles consisting of or manufactured from steel. The standard applies to hot dip galvanized products, galvanized in accordance with EN ISO 1461 and EN 10240 or products sherardized in accordance with EN ISO 17668, as well as parts of these products manufactured from continuously galvanized sheet and strip galvanized in accordance with EN 10346, which, after the galvanizing and/or assembly, or sherardizing, will have a powder organic coating system applied. This standard also applies to products which have been hot dip galvanized or sherardized according to specific product standards to which powder organic systems are applied.
This standard might also be useful when supplying other organic coating systems (excluding wet paint systems).

This European Standard specifies performance requirements for organic coating powders and powder organic coatings as applied to finished articles (hot dip galvanised or sherardised steel products) for construction purposes. Hot dip galvanised steel products can be articles that have been batch hot dip galvanised (hot dip galvanised after fabrication) or articles consisting of continuously hot dip galvanised sheet which is then subsequently fabricated.
This European Standard does not set out any performance requirements for the powder coating process itself. Guidance on cleaning and pretreatment of the hot dip galvanised or sherardised steel products prior to powder coating is provided.
This European Standard does not apply to articles with zinc-aluminium coatings or aluminium-zinc coatings, or to continuously hot dip galvanised wire. This standard does not apply to organic coating powders and powder organic coatings as applied to hot dip galvanised or sherardised steel products (i.e. duplex coated articles) for which there are specific standards, which might include additional requirements or requirements which are different from those of this standard.

Galvanized steel products can be articles batch hot dip galvanized (galvanized after fabrication) or articles consisting of continuous hot dip galvanized sheet which is then subsequently fabricated. This standard does not apply to articles with zinc-aluminium coatings (EN 10214) or aluminium-zinc coatings (EN 10215), or to continuously hot dip galvanized wire. Requirements for cleaning and pre-treatment of the galvanized or sherardised steel products prior to powder coating are also specified.
