TC - clarification of testing

This European Standard applies to the apparatus and the test procedure used for the determination of the adhesion of granules to factory made bituminous sheets for roofing. It can also be used in other areas where it is relevant.

This European Standard specifies definitions and characteristics for flexible reinforced bitumen sheets for which the intended use is roofing. This covers sheets used as top layers, intermediate layers and underlayers. It does not cover reinforced bitumen sheets for waterproofing used as underlays for discontinuous roofing.
This European Standard does not cover waterproofing sheets which are intended to be used fully bonded under bituminous products (e.g. asphalt) directly applied at high temperature, specified by EN 14695.

This European Standard specifies the determination of flexibility of bitumen sheets at low temperatures. The test can be carried out on the upper or lower face of the sheet either at a predetermined temperature or successively at different temperature steps to determine the cold bending temperature which represents a limiting temperature. Therefore, the test can be used to confirm a minimum cold bending temperature for a product or to determine the specific cold bending temperature for the product e.g. to determine the change of these properties as a result of artificial ageing.
In the case of sheets with the same bituminous compound on both sides and where the reinforcement is placed in the cross section visually closer to the upper surface, the test is performed on the bottom face only.
If the upper surface is covered with a non woven (e.g. tissue, fleece etc.) or metal facing, the test is performed on the bottom side only.
If the sheet on the upper surface is covered with permanent light surface protection and where the reinforcement is placed in the cross section visually closer to the upper surface, the test is performed on the bottom side only.

This European Standard specifies the determination of flow resistance of bitumen sheets at elevated temperature. The test is carried out at a specified temperature or consecutively at different temperatures in order to determine the flow resistance limit. Therefore, the test can be used to provide proof of the flow resistance required for a product or to determine the flow resistance limit specific to the product e.g. in order to establish the change in this behaviour as a result of artificial ageing.
The test is not applicable to bitumen sheets without reinforcement.

This European Standard specifies a test method for determining the resistance to shearing of a joint between two adjacent sheets of the same bitumen-based roofing sheets. This European Standard is to be used for testing the joints in mechanically fastened or ballasted single layer bitumen roofing. It is not designed for testing fully bonded or multilayer built up roofing.

This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the tensile properties of bitumen sheets for roofing. The method is intended for the initial type testing and/or for quality control purposes.

This European Standard describes the test for form stability of metal faced and/or metal cored bitumen sheets fully bonded to a substrate. Other types of bitumen sheets can also be tested in accordance with this standard where appropriate.

The determination of overall thickness by method A is only applicable to unembossed sheets. The determination of overall thickness by method B is applicable to embossed and unembossed sheets and can also be used for composite thickness measurements.

This European Standard specifies a test method for determining the resistance to peeling of joints between two adjacent sheets of the same bitumen-based roofing sheets. This European Standard is to be used for testing the joints in mechanically fastened single layer bitumen roofing. It is not designed for testing fully bonded or multilayer built up roofing.

This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the nail shank tear resistance of bitumen sheets for roofing. The method is for initial type testing and/or for quality control purposes.

This European Standard specifies the determination of the dimensional stability of bitumen sheets with flexible plastic-based reinforcement. Sheets reinforced with different bases or those without reinforcement may also be tested using the standard. It is not applicable to bitumen sheets with metal internal foils or those with metal facings.
