CLC/TC 17B - Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear including dimensional standardization

This International Standard applies to controllers intended for starting, controlling and stopping stationary fire pumps, including automatic and non-automatic types for alternating current electric motor or diesel engine-driven fire pumps. It is anticipated that a controller only controls a single driver. This first edition cancels and replaces the technical specification published in 2003. It constitutes a technical revision and now has the status of an International Standard.

Applies, when required by the relevant product standard, to switchgear and controlgear hereinafter referred to as equipment and intended to be connected to circuits, the rated voltage of which does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c. It does not apply to low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies which are dealt with in EN 60439. The object of this standard is to state those general rules and requirements which are common to low-voltage equipment as defined in 1.1, including for example: - definitions; - characteristics; - information supplied with the equipment; - normal service, mounting and transport conditions; - constructional and performance requirements; - verification of characteristics and performance

This standard applies to flat connections of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear by means of flat terminals with one clearance hole, or one threated hole, or one screw or stud, which are designed for the connection of rectangular bars or of lugs for round conductors. The extension of this standard to terminals with 2, 3 or 4 clearance or threated holes, screws or studs is under consideration.

This standard applies to contactors according to IEC-Standard 158-1, irrespective of their power and construction, having terminal marking of auxiliary contacts in accordance with the corresponding marking of contactor relays designated by the distinctive letter E (see EN 50 011). The use of this standard is recommended where terminal marking is a requirement of the relevant standard for contactor auxiliary contacts, or is usual practice

Applies to circuit-breakers, the main contacts of which are intended to be connected to circuits, the rated voltage of which does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c.; it also contains additional requirements for integrally fused circuit-breakers. It applies whatever the rated currents, the method of construction or the proposed applications of the circuit-breakers may be.

Applies to protective conductor terminal blocks with PE function up to 120 mm2 (250 MCM) and to protective conductor terminal blocks with PEN function equal to and above 10 mm2 (AWG 8).

This standard applies to motor contactors having the following characteristics: rated voltage 380 (415) V three phase alternating current of 50 Hz frequency; a life of one million electrical operations at a rate which can be, for example, 120 operations per hour for category AC3 to IEC publication 158-1 (1970); a power not exceeding 11 kW

The present standard applies to contactor relays and primarily to those having from 4 to 10 contacts, of which the rated working voltage does not exceed 380V (415V) alternating current, and the terminals of which each permit the connection of either one or two flexible conductors of 1.5 mm2 maximum cross section or of a single flexible conductor of 2.5 mm2 maximum cross section It is recommended that these indicated dimensions should also be used for auxiliary contactors having characteristics which differ from those given above

This publication supersedes EN 60158-1 (1970) and its Amendment 1 (1983), 60158-1C (1982), 60292-1 (1969) and its Amendment 2 (1983), 60292-2 (1970), 60292-3 (1973) and 60292-4 (1975). It should be read in conjunction with EN 60947-1.
