ISO/TC 218/WG 1 - Terminology

This document defines terms related to round and sawn timber. It applies to identification of a tree and its components, stages of processing in round and sawn forms, and timber grading, dimensions, anatomical structure, features, moisture content and conditions relating to stain, fungal and insect attack. It does not apply to terms related to strength properties of wood, engineered timber products or timber structures.

Relates to classification in ISO 1029. Covers unplaned sawn timber and such surfaced to size or planed but without profiling. Examples are shown in many figures. Replaces R 1031 and is a trilingual edition.

ISO 24294:2013 contains the terms and definitions of concepts to establish a multilingual vocabulary of terminology to be applied in forest and wood working spheres, with the scope of identification of a tree and of its parts in round and sawn aspects; its measurements; grading; condition; features; sizes; and the natural, biological and infestational defects of wood.

Covers products used in various fields, e.g. logs for the pulp and paper industry, board production and chemical processing as well as fuel-woods. Is a trilingual edition and includes an alphabetical index in English, French, and Russian.
