General Information
This document specifies a method for the assessment of the abrasion resistance of surfaces with foils, laminates, melamine faced boards, pigmented and transparent lacquers. The test is intended to be carried out on an unused part of the finished furniture, but can be carried out on test panels of the same material, finished in an identical manner to the finished product, and of a size sufficient to meet the requirements of the test.

ISO 4211-3:2013 specifies a method for the assessment of the resistance to dry heat of all rigid furniture surfaces regardless of materials. It does not apply to leather and textile surfaces.

The specified method is suitable for use either as a means of comparing different finishing systems or as a quality control test to ensure that a specified performance level is achieved or maintained. The tests are carried out on panels of the same materials and finished in the identical manner as the finished furniture of a size sufficient to meet the requirements of the test. The degree of damage to the test area is assessed by reference to a descriptive numerical rating code.

The specified method applies to surfaces of finished furniture or test panels of the same material and finished in the identical manner as the finished furniture with a size sufficient to meet the requirements of the test. The type and number of test liquids and the test periods can be selected from the tables in clause 5 and in the annex. The test results are assessed in terms of a descriptive numerical rating code.
