ABSTRACT
This specification covers segmental concrete paving slabs manufactured for construction of pedestrian and roof applications for commercial and municipal projects where close dimensional tolerances for thickness, and/or length and width are not required. These slabs can be manufactured with a dry-cast, wet-cast, or hydraulically pressed process. Concrete units covered by this specification shall be made with lightweight or normal weight aggregates or both.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the requirements for segmental concrete paving slabs manufactured for construction of pedestrian and roof applications for commercial and municipal projects. These slabs can be manufactured with a dry-cast, wet-cast, or hydraulically pressed process.
Note 1: Pedestal-set applications and those applications subject to vehicular traffic may require alternate materials properties or structural support or both.  
1.2 Concrete units covered by this specification shall be made with lightweight or normal weight aggregates or both.
Note 2: If particular features are desired, such as weight classification, higher modulus of rupture, surface textures, finish, color, or other special features, such properties should be specified by the purchaser. Local sellers, however, should be consulted as to availability of units having the desired features.  
1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

Standard Specification for Heavy Vehicular Paving Brick

ABSTRACT
This specification covers heavy vehicular paving bricks designed for use in streets, commercial driveways, aircraft taxiways, and other places where there is a high volume of heavy vehicular traffic. The bricks should be manufactured from clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances and subjected to firing. The high temperature heat treatment should develop sufficient fired bonds between the material particles to produce the required strength and durability. The bricks may also be shaped by extruding, molding, or pressing during manufacture and may have spacing lugs, chamfered edges, or both. The materials are classified into two types according to the intended installation and should all conform to the required values of freeze thaw resistance, abrasion resistance, skid resistance, coring, chips or cracks, and efflorescence.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers brick intended for use as a paving material in areas with a high volume of heavy vehicular traffic. The units are designed for use in such places as streets, commercial driveways, and aircraft taxiways. These units are not intended for applications covered by Specifications C410 or C902.  
1.2 The requirements of this specification apply at the time of purchase. The use of results from testing of brick extracted from pavements for determining compliance with the requirements of this specification is beyond the intent of this standard.  
1.3 Units are manufactured from clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances and subjected to a heat treatment at elevated temperatures (firing). The heat treatment must develop sufficient fired bond between the particulate constituents to provide the strength and durability requirements of this specification (see Terminology C1232).  
1.4 Brick may be shaped during manufacture by extruding, molding, or pressing. Brick may have spacing lugs, chamfered edges, or both.  
1.5 Use of this standard and the requirements herein to evaluate and corroborate the performance of a paving unit made from other materials, or made with other forming methods, or other means of binding the materials is not covered by the scope of this standard.

Standard Test Method for Surface Infiltration Rate of Permeable Unit Pavement Systems

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method can be used for acceptance of surface infiltration of new permeable unit pavement systems.  
5.2 Tests performed at the same location across a span of years may be used to detect a reduction of infiltration rate of the permeable surface, thereby identifying the need for any remedial maintenance intended to increase the infiltration rates to predefined levels.  
5.3 The infiltration rate obtained by this method is valid only for the localized area of the pavement where the test is conducted. To determine the surface infiltration rate of the entire permeable pavement, multiple locations must be tested and the results averaged.  
5.4 The minimum acceptable infiltration rate is typically established by the design engineer of record or the municipality and can be a function of the design precipitation event.  
5.5 This test method can also be used to demonstrate the infiltration rate of a particular permeable unit pavement system if the drainage joints are filled with the aggregate that is specified for use in that system.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the field surface infiltration rate of in place permeable unit pavement systems surfaced with solid interlocking concrete paving units, concrete grid paving units, or clay paving brick.
Note 1: For in-place pervious concrete, Test Method C1701/C1701M should be used. Test Method C1701/C1701M is functionally identical to this standard, but does not include the added provisions for positioning and securing the test ring to a discontinuous surface, which are detailed in this standard. Both tests methods give comparable results

This specification covers the standards for graded Trinidad Lake modified asphalt binders. Standard Test Method for Determining the Rheological Properties of Asphalt Binder Using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The complex shear modulus is an indicator of the stiffness or resistance of asphalt binder to deformation under load. The phase angle is a measure of the relative portion of the response to an applied load that is elastic (recoverable) or viscous (nonrecoverable).  
5.2 The test procedure is applicable to measurements in the linear region where the measured modulus and phase angle are independent of the amplitude of the strain.  
5.3 The complex modulus and the phase angle are used to calculate performance-related criteria in accordance with Specification D6373 or D8239.
Note 1: The quality of the results produced by this standard are dependent on the competence of the personnel performing the procedure and the capability, calibration, and maintenance of the equipment used. Agencies that meet the criteria of Specification D3666 are generally considered capable of competent and objective testing, sampling, inspection, etc. Users of this standard are cautioned that compliance with Specification D3666 alone does not completely ensure reliable results. Reliable results depend on many factors; following the suggestions of Specification D3666 or some similar acceptable guideline provides a means of evaluating and controlling some of those factors.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the complex shear modulus and phase angle of asphalt binders when tested in dynamic (oscillatory) shear using parallel plate geometry.  
1.2 This test method is intended for determining the linear viscoelastic properties of asphalt binders as required for specification testing and is not intended as a comprehensive procedure for the full characterization of the viscoelastic properties of asphalt binder.  
1.3 This standard is appropriate for unaged asphalt binder, conditioned asphalt binder, and asphalt binder recovered from either asphalt mixtures or asphalt emulsions. To keep the language in this standard precise, the term “asphalt binder” is used to refer to the material being tested.  
1.4 This procedure is limited to asphalt binders that contain particles with largest dimension less than 250 μm.

Standard Specification for Asphalt-Rubber Binder

ABSTRACT
This specification covers asphalt-rubber binder, consisting of a blend of paving grade asphalt cements, ground recycled tire (that is, vulcanized) rubber and other additives, as needed, for use as binder in pavement construction. The rubber shall be blended and interacted in the hot asphalt cement sufficiently to cause swelling of the rubber particles prior to use. Tests shall be performed to conform with the physical requirements of the asphalt-rubber binder, in accordance with the following test methods: apparent viscosity; modified test method; penetration; softening point; resilience; flash point; thin-film oven test residue; and penetration retention.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers asphalt-rubber binder consisting of a blend of asphalt binder, ground recycled tire (that is, vulcanized) rubber, and other additives, as needed, for use as binder in pavement construction.
