Standard Performance Specification for Woven Napery and Tablecloth Fabrics: Household and Institutional

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Upon agreement between the purchaser and the seller, fabrics intended for this end use should meet all of the requirements listed in Table 1 of this specification.  
5.2 It is recognized that for purposes of fashion or aesthetics the ultimate consumer of articles made from these fabrics may find acceptable fabrics that do not conform to all of the requirements in Table 1. Therefore, one or more of the requirements listed in Table 1 may be modified upon agreement between the purchaser and the seller.  
5.2.1 In such cases, any references to the specification shall specify that: “This fabric meets ASTM Specification D4111 except for the following characteristic(s).”  
5.3 Where no prepurchase agreement has been reached between the purchaser and the seller, and in case of controversy, the requirements listed in Table 1 are intended to be used as a guide only. As noted in 5.2, ultimate consumer demands dictate varying performance parameters for any particular style of fabric.  
5.4 The uses and significance of particular properties and methods are discussed in the appropriate sections of the specified methods.
SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers woven fabrics comprised of any textile fiber or mixture of fibers to be used in napery and tablecloths (household and institutional).  
1.2 These requirements apply to both the length and width directions for those properties where fabric direction is pertinent.  
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method for the determination of the flammability of blankets is considered satisfactory for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of blankets since this test method has been used extensively in the trade for acceptance testing.  
5.2 This test method is intended to evaluate fabrics used in electric blankets without the resistance heating wires.  
5.3 Fabrics are potentially combustible. Some fabrics when used for blankets are potentially dangerous to the user depending on the ease of ignition, rapidity, and intensity of burning. This test method addresses some of these characteristics.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method provides a means to identify blanket fabrics which ignite easily and propagate flame across the surface.  
1.2 This test method specifies the procedures described in the “Voluntary Blanket Flammability Standard” which has been used by the blanket industry in the United States since 1972.  
1.3 This standard is used to measure and describe the response of materials, products, or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled conditions, but does not by itself incorporate all factors required for fire hazard or fire risk assessment of the materials, products or assemblies under actual fire conditions.
Note 1: This test method is not identical to 16 CFR Part 1610, Flammability of Clothing Textiles. Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations require that fabrics introduced into commerce meet the requirements of 16 CFR Part 1610.  
1.4 Fire testing is inherently hazardous. Adequate safeguards for personnel and property shall be employed in conducting these tests.

Standard Test Method for Flammability of Textiles Used in Children's Sleepwear

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method is suitable for evaluating flammability characteristics and laundering durability of textiles used in the manufacture of children's sleepwear. It is not suitable for evaluating the flammability characteristics of textiles for other product applications or ignition scenarios.  
5.2 The procedure for flammability testing used in this test method is technically equivalent to those used in 16 CFR 1615 and 1616. This test method does not include detailed specimen sampling plans, or the regulatory and record keeping requirements cited in the federal regulations. Please consult 16 CFR 1615 and 1616 for information for these operations.  
5.3 This test method is suitable for training technicians to conduct the federal test and can serve as a laboratory reference.  
5.4 Test Method D6545 is very different from 16 CFR 1610 and from Test Method D1230.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method evaluates the relative flammability of textiles and garments intended for use in children's sleepwear. The procedures of this test method follow testing and laundering procedures used to evaluate the flammability of children's sleepwear contained in U.S. Federal Regulations 16 CFR 1615 and 1616.  
1.2 A textile used in children's sleepwear must be tested in its original state and after 50 laundering and drying cycles to assess the flame resistance of the textile relative to its use life.  
1.3 This method is identical to the method outlined in the regulations 16 CFR 1615 or 1616. The regulation includes additional information such as sampling plans, record keeping requirements, and interpretations for compliance applicable to children’s sleepwear. Please consult 16 CFR 1615 and 1616 for these operations and interpretations.  
1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses after SI units are provided for information only and are not considered standard.  
1.5 This test method is used to measure and describe the response of materials, products, or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled conditions, but does not by itself incorporate all factors required for fire hazard or fire risk assessment of the materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions.

Standard Performance Specification for Soft Window Covering Fabrics for Household Use

ABSTRACT
This performance specification establishes the evaluation of specific performance characteristics of any washable or dry-cleanable soft window covering fabrics, whether lined or unlined, for household use. The characteristics to be evaluated prior to repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, seam strength and appearance, uniformity of shade (part to part), and size consistency (side to side and part to part). Consequently, the characteristics to be evaluated after repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, colorfastness, dimensional change, seam strength, appearance, and compatibility of components. Compatibility of dimensional change between drapery fabric and lining should be noted.
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This specification may be used to evaluate pertinent performance characteristics of washable and drycleanable soft window coverings, whether lined or unlined.  
4.1.1 Soft window covering characteristics to be evaluated prior to repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, seam strength and appearance, uniformity of shade (part to part), and size consistency (side to side and part to part).  
4.1.2 Soft window covering characteristics to be evaluated after repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, colorfastness, dimensional change, seam strength, appearance, and compatibility of components. Compatibility of dimensional change between drapery fabric and lining should be noted.  
4.2 The specified home laundry machine settings do not reflect advances in cycle design or special features of washer and dryers which enhance the performance of these products. The standard washing and drying procedure reflects the minimum capabilities of current home laundering equipment used by consumers in accordance with care label instructions.  
4.2.1 The reproducibility of the results of the test method specified in 9.2 depends on the use of procedures for automatic home laundering as specified on care labels.  
4.3 The areas to be evaluated and the criteria assigned to these areas shall be set by mutual agreement between purchaser and supplier.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the evaluation of specific performance characteristics of any washable or drycleanable soft window covering.  
1.2 This specification is not a specification for washable or drycleanable soft window coverings but may be used by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the supplier to establish material specifications.

Standard Performance Specification for Blanket Products for Institutional and Household Use

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Upon mutual agreement between the purchaser and the supplier, woven products intended for this end use should meet all of the requirements listed in Table 1 of this specification.  
4.2 It is recognized that for purposes of fashion or aesthetics the ultimate consumer of articles made from these fabrics may find acceptable products that do not conform to all of the requirements in Table 1. Therefore, one or more of the requirements listed in Table 1 may be modified by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the supplier.  
4.2.1 In such cases, any references to the specification shall specify that: This product meets Specification D5432 except for the following characteristic(s).  
4.3 Where no prepurchase agreement has been reached between the purchaser and the supplier, and in case of controversy, the requirements listed in Table 1 are intended to be used as a guide only. As noted in 4.2, ultimate consumer demands dictate varying performance parameters for any particular style.  
4.4 The significance and use of particular properties and test methods are discussed in the appropriate sections of the specified test methods.
SCOPE

1.2 This specification may be used by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the supplier to establish purchasing specification requirements.  
1.3 The requirements in Table 1 apply to the length and width directions for those properties where fabric direction is pertinent.  
1.4 This specification does not include requirements for electric blankets. Electric blankets are specified under UL 964 requirements dictated by the Underwriter's Laboratories.
