Standard Specification for Structural Standing Seam Aluminum Roof Panel Systems

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the design, construction, and weatherability of structural standing seam aluminum roof panel systems. It includes performance requirements for the following elements only: panels, concealed panel clips, panel/clip anchorage, and panel joint sealers. Structural panels shall be designed in accordance with the required specifications for aluminum structures and in accordance with sound engineering methods and practices. The static load capacity and uplift index shall be tested to meet the requirements prescribed. Connections of panels to structural members shall be made with concealed panel clips compatible with the panel design. A fixing line is required to anchor roof panels in order to maintain end alignment and to resist in-plane gravity and thermal force components. Panel-to-panel sidelap connections and endlaps shall be weathertight. Panels of maximum practicable lengths shall be used to minimize endlaps.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the design, construction, and weatherability of structural standing seam aluminum roof panel systems. It includes performance requirements for the following elements only: panels, concealed panel clips, panel/clip anchorage, and panel joint sealers.
Note 1: These systems are used on both low-slope and steep-slope roof applications. They also are used with or without an underlying deck or sheathing.  
1.2 The objective of this specification is to provide for the overall performance of the structural standing seam aluminum roof panel system as defined in 3.2.6 during its service life in order to provide weather protection, carry the specified design loads, and allow proper access over the roof surface in order to provide for periodic maintenance of the equipment by the building owner.  
1.3 In addition to structural characteristics, the specifier shall evaluate other characteristics beyond the scope of this specification that affect the final choice of roof construction. These include, but are not limited to, functional, legal, insurance, and economic considerations. See Appendix X1 for the specifier's checklist.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Tension tests provide information on the strength and ductility of materials under uniaxial tensile stresses. This information may be useful in comparisons of materials, alloy development, quality control, and design under certain circumstances.  
4.2 The results of tension tests of specimens machined to standardized dimensions from selected portions of a part or material may not totally represent the strength and ductility properties of the entire end product or its in-service behavior in different environments.  
4.3 These test methods are considered satisfactory for acceptance testing of commercial shipments and have been used extensively in the trade for this purpose.
SCOPE
1.1 These test methods cover the tension testing of wrought and cast aluminum- and magnesium-alloy products, with the exception of aluminum foil,2 and are derived from Test Methods E8M, which cover the tension testing of all metallic materials.
Note 1: These metric test methods are the equivalents of those in Test Methods B557, and are compatible in technical content except for the requirement of longer gage lengths for round specimens.
Note 2: Foil is sheet metal less than 0.20 mm thick. There is an overlap in the thickness range 0.15 mm to 0.20 mm defined for foil and sheet. Sheet products in this thickness range are supplied to sheet product specifications and foil products in this thickness range are supplied to foil product specifications. Exceptions to the provisions of these test methods may need to be made in individual specifications or test methods for a particular material.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the physical requirements for aluminum alloy chain link fence fabrics used for commercial, industrial, and residential applications. These fabrics shall meet the specified requirements for weave form, size of mesh, size of wire, height of fabric, selvage, breaking strength, finish, and standard leangth of rolls.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers aluminum alloy chain link fence fabric for commercial, industrial, and residential uses.

Standard Test Method for Determining Stress-Corrosion Cracking Resistance of Heat-Treatable Aluminum Alloy Products Using Breaking Load Method

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The test method was developed for use with high strength aluminum alloys (2XXX and Cu containing 7XXX) that are normally tested in 3.5 weight % NaCl by alternate immersion. However, the concept which uses residual strength as a measure of damage evolution (in this case environmentally assisted cracking) can, in principle, be applied to any alloy and environmental system.  
5.2 This test method has been developed for research studies of alloys and tempers with improved resistance to SCC. The test results permit different material variants to be compared with a high degree of confidence and with much more precision than the results of pass/fail tests. Thus, it is particularly useful for comparing materials with similar levels of resistance to stress-corrosion cracking. The procedure could be modified for use as a quality assurance tool but this has not been a primary purpose during its development.  
5.3 The exposure periods and conditions that are described in this test method apply specifically to high strength aluminum alloys, but the statistical techniques should be valid for other alloy systems with different exposure conditions.  
5.4 Although this particular procedure was primarily intended for testing products in the short-transverse stressing direction, it is useful for other stressing directions, particularly the long-transverse direction in sheet and thin plate products.  
5.5 Determination of the actual serviceability of a material requires stress-corrosion testing performed in the intended service environment, under conditions relating to the end use, including protective measures such as coatings and inhibitors and is outside the scope of this test method.

SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers procedures for evaluation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance by the breaking load test method, a concept which uses residual strength as the measure of damage evolution (in this case environmentally assisted cracking).  
1.2 This test method covers specimen type and replication, test environment, stress levels, exposure periods, final strength determination, and statistical analysis of the raw residual strength data.  
1.3 The test method was developed for use with heat-treatable aluminum alloys, that is, 2XXX alloys and 7XXX with 1.2 to 3.0 % Cu, and test specimens oriented in the short-transverse direction relative to grain structure (1, 2).2 However, the residual strength measurements and the statistics used to analyze the data are not specific to heat-treatable aluminum alloys and can be used for other specimen orientations and different types of materials.
