- Oil content (gravimetric/IR): ISO 7106
- Permanent gases and methane: gas chromatography with thermal conductivity detection (method details provided)
- Reference to EN ISO 3696 for water used in analyses
- Safety, labelling and transport: requirements for EU labelling, transport regulations and marking of product and accompanying documents; Annex B gives general rules for safe handling and use. The standard highlights chemical incompatibilities (e.g., halogens, acids, oxidizers) and explosion risk for 15–30% ammonia/air mixtures.
Applications and users
EN 12126:2022 is targeted at organizations involved with the supply, testing, handling and use of liquefied ammonia for potable water treatment, including:
- Water utilities and treatment plant operators
- Chemical manufacturers and distributors of liquefied ammonia
- Analytical and quality control laboratories
- Transporters, storage facility managers and health & safety officers
- Regulatory authorities and procurement teams seeking compliance with European product and safety requirements
Practical value: the standard helps ensure consistent product quality, accurate analytical testing, regulatory compliance, and safer handling to prevent contamination of drinking water and minimize operational and safety risks.
