This document specifies a method for the determination of the level of free moisture present in non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives. It is determined by measuring the mass lost on heating.
This document is one of a number of parts of ISO 11127 dealing with the sampling and testing of non-metallic abrasives for blast-cleaning.
The types of non-metallic abrasive and requirements on each are contained in the ISO 11126 series.
The ISO 11126 series and the ISO 11127 series have been drafted as a coherent set of International Standards on non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives. Information on all parts of both series is given in Annex A.

Dieses Dokument ist ein Teil der Normenreihe ISO 11127, welche die Probenahme und die Prüfung von nichtmetallischen Strahlmitteln behandelt.
Die verschiedenen Arten nichtmetallischer Strahlmittel und Anforderungen an diese sind in der Normenreihe ISO 11126 enthalten.

Overview

EN ISO 11127-5:2021 (ISO 11127-5:2020) specifies a laboratory method for the determination of free moisture in non‑metallic blast‑cleaning abrasives used in surface preparation of steel prior to painting. Moisture is measured by the mass lost on heating; the procedure and reporting requirements are set out to support quality control, conformity assessment and specification compliance for blast‑cleaning abrasives.

  • container/tray resistant to heat,

  • balance accurate to 0.01 g,
  • desiccator with suitable desiccant.
• Sampling: Take a representative sample following ISO 11127‑1 (Sampling); store sealed until tested.
• Test portion: Approximately 100 g test portion, weighed to 0.01 g. Container is pre‑dried, cooled in desiccator and tared before adding sample. Agitate sample to spread it and increase surface area for drying.
• Drying procedure: Place the test portion in the oven at (110 ± 5) °C for at least 1 hour, then cool in the desiccator and re‑weigh.
• Expression of results: Moisture content M (%) = (m0 − m1) / m0 × 100, where m0 is mass before heating and m1 after. Perform duplicate determinations; if they differ by > 0.05 % (absolute) repeat test. Report mean to nearest 0.01 %.
• Test report must include: product identification (per ISO 11126 where applicable), reference to ISO 11127‑5:2020, result, deviations, unusual observations, date and tester name.
