Leather - Physical and mechanical tests - Determination of fogging characteristics (ISO 17071:2006)

ISO 17071:2006 specifies two alternative methods for determining the fogging characteristics of leathers used in the passenger compartments of motor vehicles, namely Method A and Method B. These are two different test procedures to measure the volatile components and there is no mathematical correlation between the results obtained with Method A and those with Method B.
Method A determines by reflection the light scattering properties (or opaqueness) and the nature of the film or droplet formation from volatile components condensed on a cold glass surface. Method B measures gravimetrically the quantity of volatile components condensed on a cold aluminium foil surface. Annex A gives the results of inter-laboratory trial which show that Method B performs well, whereas Method A showed a large variation in the percentage reflection.
The test conditions allow the two tests to be carried out in succession.

Diese Internationale Norm legt zwei alternative Verfahren, d. h. Verfahren A und Verfahren B, zur Bestimmung der Fogging Eigenschaften von Leder für den Fahrgastraum von Kraftfahrzeugen fest. Es handelt sich um zwei unterschiedliche Prüfverfahren zur Messung der flüchtigen Bestandteile. Es existiert keine mathematische Korrelation zwischen den nach Verfahren A und den nach Verfahren B erhaltenen Ergebnissen.
Bei Verfahren A werden die Licht streuenden Eigenschaften (oder Opazität) und die Art der Film  oder Tröpfchenbildung aus an einer kalten Glasfläche kondensierten flüchtigen Bestandteilen durch Messung der Reflexion bestimmt. Bei Verfahren B wird die an einer kalten Aluminiumfolie kondensierte Menge flüchtiger Bestandteile gravimetrisch bestimmt. Anhang A enthält die Ergebnisse eines Ringversuchs, die zeigen, dass Verfahren B gute Ergebnisse bringt, während Verfahren A eine große Abweichung in der prozentualen Reflexion aufweist.
Die Prüfbedingungen erlauben, dass beide Prüfungen nacheinander durchgeführt werden.

L'ISO 17071:2006 spécifie deux méthodes différentes pour déterminer les caractéristiques de la condensation provoquée par les cuirs utilisés dans l'habitacle des véhicules automobiles, à savoir la Méthode A et la Méthode B. Il s'agit cependant de deux modes opératoires d'essai différents pour le mesurage des matières volatiles et il n'existe aucune corrélation mathématique entre les résultats obtenus avec la Méthode A et ceux obtenus avec la Méthode B.
La Méthode A détermine par réflexion les propriétés de dispersion de la lumière (ou l'opacité) et la nature de la formation du film ou des gouttelettes à partir de matières volatiles condensées sur une surface froide en verre. La Méthode B mesure par gravimétrie la quantité de matières volatiles condensée sur une surface froide en feuille d'aluminium. L'Annexe A donne les résultats d'un essai interlaboratoires qui montrent que si la Méthode B donne entière satisfaction, la Méthode A en revanche montre une variation importante du pourcentage de réflexion.
Les conditions d'essai permettent de mener les deux méthodes d'essai à la suite.

Usnje - Fizikalno in mehansko preskušanje - Ugotavljanje karakteristik meglenosti (ISO 17071:2006)

ISO 17071:2006 določa dve alternativni metodi za ugotavljanje karakteristik meglenosti usnja, ki se uporablja v prostorih za potnike v motornih vozilih, in sicer metodo A in metodo B. To sta dva različna preskusna postopka za merjenje hlapnih komponent in med rezultati, dobljenimi z metodo A, in rezultati, dobljenimi z metodo B, ni matematične korelacije.
Metoda A z odsevanjem določa lastnosti sipanja svetlobe (ali neprosojnost) in naravo filma ali nastajanje kapljic hlapnih komponent, ki se kondenzirajo na hladni stekleni površini. Metoda B gravimetrično meri količino hlapnih komponent, kondenziranih na hladni površini aluminijeve folije. Dodatek A podaja rezultate medlaboratorijskih poskusov, ki kažejo, da metoda B deluje dobro, pri metodi A pa prihaja do velikih variacij odstotka odsevanja.
Preskusni pogoji omogočajo, da se ta dva preskusa izvajata zaporedno.

The text of ISO 17071:2006 has been prepared by International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists
Societies and has been taken over as EN ISO 17071:2011 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 289 “Leather”
the secretariat of which is held by UNI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2012, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by March 2012.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 14288:2003.
