This document specifies the safety, design, construction, and performance requirements and testing for automatic shut-off valves for burners and appliances burning one or more gaseous fuels, hereafter referred to as ‘valves’. This document is applicable to valves with declared maximum inlet pressures up to and including 500 kPa and of nominal connection sizes up to and including DN 250.
Addition:
This document is applicable to:
-   electrically actuated valves;
-   valves actuated by fluids where the control valves for these fluids are actuated electrically, but not to any external electrical devices for switching the control signal or actuating energy;
-   valves where the flow rate is controlled by external electrical signals, either in discrete steps or proportional to the applied signal;
-   valves fitted with closed position indicator switches.
An assessment method for valve designs is given by this document.

Ce document s'applique aux robinets dont la pression amont maximale déclarée est inférieure ou égale à 500 kPa, de diamètres nominaux de raccordement inférieurs ou égaux à DN 250.

Le document est applicable aux :
- robinets de sectionnement commandés électriquement
- robinets de sectionnement actionnés par des fluides si les vannes de commande de ces fluides sont commandées électriquement, mais en aucun cas aux dispositifs électriques externes commutant le signal de commande ou libérant l'énergie motrice de commande.
- robinets dans lesquels le débit est commandé par des signaux électriques externes, soit par pas, soit proportionnellement au signal reçu.
- robinets équipés de contacts indicateurs de position de fermeture.
Une méthode d'évaluation de la conception des robinets est donnée par le présent document.
Le 4ième paragraphe de l’article 1 de la EN 13611 :2019 est supprimé.

This document (prEN 161:2020) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 58 “Safety and

control devices for burners and appliances burning gaseous or liquid fuels”, the secretariat of which is

held by BSI.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 161+A3:2011:2013.

This document has been prepared under a standardization request given to CEN by the European

Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of

EU Directive(s).

For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annex ZA and B, which is an integral part of this

document.

This document is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 13611:2007+A2:2011. This document

refers to clauses of EN 13611:2007+A2:2011 or adapts clauses by stating “with the following

modification”, “with the following addition”, “is replaced by the following” or "is not applicable" in the

corresponding clause. This European Standard adds clauses or sub-clauses to the structure of

EN 13611:2007+A2:2011 which are particular to this European Standard. Subclauses which are

additional to those in EN 13611:2019 are numbered starting from 101. Additional Annexes are

designed as Annex AA, BB, CC, etc.

It should be noted that the following significant editorial changes compared to the previous edition

have been incorporated in this European Standard:

1 Scope

This document specifies the safety, construction and performance requirements for automatic shut-off

valves for use with gas burners, gas appliances and similar use, hereafter referred to as ‘valves’.

This document is applicable to valves with declared maximum inlet pressures up to and including

500 kPa (5 bar) of nominal connection sizes up to and including DN 250 for use with one or more fuel

gases in accordance with EN 437.

This document is applicable to electrically operated valves and to valves actuated by fluids where the

control valves for these fluids are actuated electrically, but not to any external electrical devices for

switching the control signal or actuating energy.
An assessment method for valve designs is given by this document.

This document is also applicable to valves where the flow rate is controlled by external electrical

signals, either in discrete steps or proportional to the applied signal.

This document is also applicable to valves fitted with closed position indicator switches.

NOTE Provisions for final product inspection and testing by the manufacturer are not specified.

This document establishes methodologies for the determination of a Performance Level (PL) in

accordance with EN 13611:2019, Annexes K and L.
