Die Tore sind für den Einbau in Zugangsbereichen von Personen vorgesehen, wobei deren Hauptaufgaben darin bestehen, für Waren- und Fahrzeugverkehr sichere Zufahrt und Personen sicheren Zutritt zu Industrie-, Gewerbe-oder Wohnanlagen zu ermöglichen. Die Tore dürfen hand- oder kraftbetätigt sein. Dieses Dokument gilt für alle Tore nach prEN 13241:1998. 1.2 Ausnahmen Sie gilt nicht für: - Schleusentore und Docktore; - Türen in Aufzügen; - Türen in Fahrzeugen;
1.1 Généralité La présente norme européenne spécifie la classification de la résistance à la perméabilité à l'air des portes en position fermée, lors d'un essais effectué conformément à l'EN 12427. Les portes sont destinées à être installées dans des zones accessibles aux personnes dont l'utilisation principale prévue est de donner un accès sans danger aux marchandises, aux véhicules et aux personnes dans des locaux industriels, commerciaux ou résidentiels. Les portes peuvent être manoeuvrées manuellement ou motorisées. Le présent document s'applique à toutes les portes prévues conformément au prEN 13241:1998. 1.2 Exclusions Elle ne s'applique pas : - aux portails fermés à clé et aux grilles d'entrée de docks ; - aux portes d'ascenseurs ; - aux portes de véhicules ; - aux portes blindées ; - aux portes principalement utilisées pour la retenue des animaux ; - aux rideaux en tissu de théâtres ; - aux portes manoeuvrées horizontalement ayant une largeur inférieure à 2,5 m et une surface inférieure à 6,25 m² principalement destinées à l'usage des piétons ;
- aux portes tambours quelles que soient leurs dimensions ; - aux portes hors d'atteinte des personnes (comme les barrières sur les portiques de grue) ; - aux barrières de passages à niveau ; - aux barrières exclusivement destinées à la circulation automobile.

Overview
EN 12426:2000 is a European standard developed by CEN that specifies the classification of air permeability for industrial, commercial, and garage doors and gates. This standard applies to doors in a fully closed position, tested in accordance with EN 12427, ensuring consistent measures of air leakage performance. The doors covered are designed for installation in areas accessible to people, including industrial, commercial, and residential settings. Doors may be either manually or power-operated, provided they comply with the related standard prEN 13241:1998.
The standard focuses on determining air permeability, which is essential for assessing environmental control, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality. By classifying doors according to their air leakage characteristics, EN 12426:2000 helps manufacturers, architects, and building owners select the appropriate door solutions based on performance needs.
Key Topics
Scope and Application
Applies to a wide range of industrial, commercial, and garage doors where human access is involved. Exclusions include lock gates, dock gates, vehicle doors, armoured doors, theatre curtains, revolving doors, and several other specific types.Air Permeability Classification
Defines performance classes for air leakage when doors are closed, determined by testing using EN 12427 procedures.Testing Procedures
Requires standardized testing to assess how much air passes through door assemblies under defined pressure differences.Manual and Powered Doors
Both types of operational mechanisms are covered, ensuring broad applicability across various door technologies.Relation to Other Standards
Ties in with prEN 13241:1998 for general door construction requirements and EN 12427 for air permeability testing methodology.
Applications
Industrial Facilities
Helps in selecting doors that maintain controlled indoor environments to protect equipment and reduce energy costs.Commercial Buildings
Aids architects and builders in meeting building codes related to air leakage and energy performance.Garages and Vehicle Access Points
Ensures garage doors meet air permeability ratings that contribute to better indoor air quality and security.Energy Efficiency Programs
Supports compliance with energy-saving initiatives by classifying doors based on their airtightness levels.Safety and Comfort
By limiting air leakage, doors classified under EN 12426:2000 contribute to safer, more comfortable environments by preventing drafts and uncontrolled airflow.
