EN ISO 8394-2:2017 - Buildings and civil engineering works - Determination of extrudability for sealant - Part 2: Using standardized apparatus - specifies a laboratory method to determine the extrudability of sealants independently of the package in which they are supplied. Endorsed by CEN (as EN ISO 8394-2:2017), the standard defines test conditions, apparatus, conditioning and test procedures to produce comparable extrusion-rate results for single- and multi-component sealants.

- Single-component: fill cylinder avoiding air bubbles.
- Multi-component: mix per manufacturer instructions and test at three pot-life times - quarter, mid, and third-quarter of pot life.
Test procedure
- Remove air from orifice, then extrude for a defined time (default 30 s for single-component tests); weigh extruded mass immediately after extrusion.
- Multi-component sealants: perform three extrusions at the defined pot-life times; for robustness, the protocol calls for multiple apparatus and repeats (nine tests total when specified).

- Results expressed as extrusion rate (g/min) and optionally volume per minute; standard provides formulae and rounding rules.

This document (EN ISO 8394-2:2017) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 59 “Buildings
and civil engineering works” in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 349 “Sealants for
joints in building construction” the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2018, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by May 2018.
