Overview

EN 748:2013/prA1 is a European standard specifying the functional and safety requirements for football goals used in outdoor and indoor sports facilities. Developed by CEN Technical Committee CEN/TC 136, this amendment to EN 748:2013 outlines essential criteria, including test methods to ensure the durability, stability, and player safety of football goals. The standard applies to multiple types and sizes of goals used in both training and competitive football environments.

This standard excludes specific lightweight and portable goals covered by separate standards EN 16579 and EN 16664, focusing instead on more robust and standard-sized football goals.

Key Topics

  • Functional requirements for four types of football goals, differentiated by construction and intended use.
  • Specifications for two standard sizes, adapting to different levels of play and competition.
  • Safety requirements designed to prevent accidents caused by tipping, collapse, or inadequate anchoring.
  • Test methods for verifying compliance with functional and safety criteria, ensuring goals withstand typical use conditions.
  • Exclusions for lightweight and portable goals governed by related standards EN 16579 and EN 16664, emphasizing the scope clarity of EN 748:2013/prA1.
  • Normative references to related standards providing complementary safety and equipment guidelines.

Applications

EN 748:2013/prA1 is essential for manufacturers, sports facility managers, and regulatory bodies involved in the design, procurement, and inspection of football goals. Specific practical applications include:

  • Sporting venues: Ensuring football goals meet safety standards for use in professional stadiums, community sports centers, and school sports grounds.
  • Manufacturing and quality control: Guiding manufacturers on construction materials, stability requirements, and functional dimensions to produce compliant football goals.
  • Safety inspections: Helping inspectors and sports safety officials evaluate goalposts’ structural integrity and anchoring systems to minimize injuries.
  • Training and competition: Providing standardized goal specifications that accommodate differing requirements for training sessions versus official matches in indoor or outdoor sporting arenas.

Related Standards

  • EN 16579: Specifies functional and safety requirements for portable and socketed football goals. These goals weigh between 10 kg and 42 kg and have different size criteria.
  • EN 16664: Covers lightweight football goals, focusing on ease of transport and safety, typically for informal or recreational use.
  • This amendment references both EN 16579 and EN 16664 to clearly delimit the scope of EN 748:2013/prA1 from portable and lightweight alternatives.

By adhering to EN 748:2013/prA1, stakeholders ensure football goals installed in sporting facilities provide a safe and standardized playing environment, reducing hazards and promoting fair play at all levels of football activity. This standard supports overall sports facility safety management and enhances equipment reliability.
