Coil coated metals - Test methods - Part 2: Gloss

This document specifies the procedure for determining the gloss of an organic coating on a metallic substrate. Gloss is a characteristic of fundamental importance to the appearance of the coil coated product.
The apparatus requires a flat specimen of size greater than the aperture, thus, uneven surfaces cannot be measured.
This method is applicable to all pigmented and unpigmented coatings including metallic/pearlescent coatings. However, for textured coatings it is only indicative.

Dieses Dokument legt das Verfahren zum Bestimmen des Glanzes einer organischen Beschichtung auf einem metallischen Substrat fest. Der Glanz ist eine Kenngröße von grundsätzlicher Bedeutung für das Aussehen eines bandbeschichteten Produktes.
Das Gerät erfordert eine flache Probe, die größer ist als die Messöffnung. Unebene Proben können folglich nicht gemessen werden.
Das Verfahren ist auf alle pigmentierten und nichtpigmentierten Beschichtungen, einschließlich Beschichtungen mit Metalleffekt oder Perlglanzeffekt, anwendbar. Bei strukturierten Beschichtungen ergibt es jedoch nur Anhaltswerte.

Le présent document décrit la méthode de détermination du brillant d’un revêtement organique sur un subjectile métallique. Le brillant est une caractéristique qui a une importance fondamentale pour l’aspect du produit prélaqué.
L’appareillage requiert une éprouvette plane de taille supérieure à l’ouverture. Par conséquent, les surfaces irrégulières ne peuvent pas être mesurées.
Cette méthode s’applique à tous les revêtements, pigmentés ou non, y compris aux revêtements métalliques/nacrés. Cependant, pour les revêtements texturés, elle est seulement indicative.

varnishes”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2022, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by April 2022.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of

This document supersedes EN 13523-2:2014.
