Inset appliances including open fires fired by solid fuels - Requirements and test methods

This Standard is applicable to hand fired appliances whose primary function is to provide heat into the space in which they are installed and which are listed under categories 1b, 1c, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3b and 3c of table 1 of prEN 13229. Additionally, where fitted with a boiler, they also provide domestic hot water and/or central heating. These appliances may burn naturally occurring or manufactured solid mineral fuels, peat briquettes, natural or manufactured wood logs and biomass based products which are in the form of an identifiable consistent product or be multi-fuel in accordance with the appliance manufacturer's instructions. The surround of the appliance is integrated with the building with the exception of free-standing appliances and inset appliances which are installed into a fireplace recess or enclosure. This standard is not applicable to appliances having fan assisted combustion air. Open fireplace components such as a bottomgrate with associated firefront which the manufacturer supplied for installation inti an existing heat resistant, insulated firebox are not covered by this standard.

This amendment A2 modifies the European Standard EN 13229:2001; it was approved by CEN on 18 June 2004.
CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this
amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the Central Secretariat or to any CEN member.

Foreword

This document (EN 13229:2001/A2:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 295
“Residential solid fuel burning appliances”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI.

This Amendment to the European Standard EN 13229:2001 shall be given the status of a national standard,
either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by February 2005, and conflicting
national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by May 2006.

This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directives.

For relationship with EU Directives, see informative Annex ZA, which is an integral part of this document.

According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic,

Insert the title listing for a new Clause 9 after Clause 8 as follows:

Delete the existing contents listing of Annex C and replace with the listing of Annex ZA as follows:

Vorwort
Dieses Dokument (EN 13229:2001/A2:2004) wurde vom Technischen Komitee CEN/TC „Häusliche
Feuerstätten für feste Brennstoffe“ erarbeitet, dessen Sekretariat vom BSI gehalten wird.
Diese Änderung zur Europäischen Norm EN 13229:2001 muss den Status einer nationalen Norm erhalten,
entweder durch Veröffentlichung eines identischen Textes oder durch Anerkennung bis Februar 2005, und
etwaige entgegenstehende nationale Normen müssen bis Mai 2006 zurückgezogen werden.
Diese Europäische Norm wurde im Rahmen eines CEN von der Europäischen Kommission und der Euro-
päischen Freihandelszone verliehenen Mandats erarbeitet und unterstützt wesentliche Anforderungen von
EU-Richtlinien.
Hinsichtlich der Beziehung zu EU-Richtlinien wird auf Anhang ZA verwiesen, der ein integraler Bestandteil
dieser Norm ist.
Entsprechend der CEN/CENELEC-Geschäftsordnung sind die nationalen Normungsinstitute der folgenden
