Connectors for electronic equipment - Product requirements - Part 2-113: Circular connectors - Detail specification for connectors with M12 screw locking with power and signal contacts for data transmission with frequency up to 100 MHz

IEC 61076-2-113:2017 describes M12 circular connectors with two data pairs and power contacts with current ratings up to 12 A, that are typically used for data and power applications in industrial premises. These connectors consist of both fixed and free connectors either rewireable or non rewireable, with screw-locking. Male connectors have round contacts diameters of 1,50 mm, 1,00 mm and 0,60 mm. The different codings provided by this document prevent the mating of accordingly coded male or female connectors to any other similarly sized interfaces covered by other standards and the cross-mating between the different codings provided by this document. M12 is the dimension of the thread of the screw locking mechanism of these circular connectors. Key words: Connectors, Circular Connectors, M12.

Overview - EN 61076-2-113:2017 (M12 circular connectors)

EN 61076-2-113:2017 (adopted from IEC 61076-2-113:2017) is the European detail specification for M12 circular connectors combining power and signal contacts for data transmission up to 100 MHz. It defines mechanical, electrical and environmental product requirements for fixed and free connectors (rewireable and non-rewireable) with M12 screw locking, intended primarily for data‑and‑power applications in industrial premises. The standard includes connector geometry, pin diameters, codings and test requirements to ensure reliable mating, electrical performance and durability.

Key topics and technical requirements

  • Connector types and interfaces
    • Fixed and free connectors; rewireable and non-rewireable versions; screw‑locking with M12 thread.
    • Male contacts with round diameters 1.50 mm, 1.00 mm and 0.60 mm.
    • Coding schemes to prevent cross‑mating with other similarly sized interfaces.
  • Electrical ratings
    • Power contact current ratings up to 12 A.
    • Specified transmission capability for frequencies up to 100 MHz.
    • Requirements for insulation, creepage/clearance distances and voltage proof.
  • Transmission characteristics
    • Parameters and tests for insertion loss, return loss, NEXT, FEXT and related transfer metrics to validate data performance up to 100 MHz.
  • Mechanical & environmental
    • Dimensional front‑views, engagement/mating gauges and pin assignments.
    • Mechanical endurance (insertion/withdrawal forces, coupling effectiveness, contact retention).
    • Climatic categories, vibration, IP degree of protection and mixed‑gas corrosion testing references.
  • Test schedules
    • Defined test groups covering climatic, mechanical, electrical load, chemical resistivity and transmission verification.

Applications and who uses this standard

  • Users: connector manufacturers, OEMs, panel builders, electrical designers, test laboratories and procurement teams specifying M12 power+signal connectors for industrial settings.
  • Applications: factory automation, control cabinets, sensors/actuators and equipment where combined power and data cabling are required and where reliable screw‑locking M12 interfaces are preferred.
  • Value: ensures interoperability within the M12 family, prevents dangerous cross‑mating, and provides verified electrical and transmission performance up to 100 MHz.

FOREWORD 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. Part 2-113: Circular connectors – Detail specification for connectors
with M12 screw locking with power and signal contacts for data transmission with frequency up to 100 MHz
1 Scope This part of IEC 61076 describes M12 circular connectors with two data pairs and power contacts with current ratings up to 12 A, that are typically used for data and power applications in industrial premises. NOTE M12 is the dimension of the thread of the screw locking mechanism of these circular connectors. 2 Normative references The following documents are referred to in the text in such a way that some or all of their content constitutes requirements of this document. M12은 이 원형 커넥터의 나사 잠금 메커니즘 스레드의 크기를 나타낸다. 핵심 단어: 커넥터, 원형 커넥터, M12.

EN 61076-2-113:2017 is a standard that describes M12 circular connectors used for data and power applications in industrial premises. These connectors have two data pairs and power contacts up to 12 A. They can be either fixed or free connectors and have screw-locking. The male connectors come in different diameters. The standard provides different codings to prevent mating with other similarly sized interfaces covered by other standards. M12 refers to the dimension of the thread of the screw locking mechanism. The key words related to this standard are connectors, circular connectors, and M12.

The article discusses the specifications and requirements of the EN 61076-2-113:2017 standard, which pertains to M12 circular connectors with power and data transmission capabilities at frequencies up to 100 MHz. These connectors are commonly used in industrial settings and can handle current ratings of up to 12 A. They come in both fixed and free variants, with options for rewirable or non-rewirable configurations, and feature a screw-locking mechanism. Male connectors have different contact diameters, and the document specifies different codings to prevent incompatible mating with similarly sized connectors from other standards.
