EN 61300-2-26:2007 (identical to IEC 61300-2-26:2006) specifies a standardized salt mist (salt spray) test for fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components.     • pH: 6.5 to 7.2 at (35 ± 2) °C; pH must be measured per batch and maintained during conditioning (HCl or NaOH may be used to adjust pH while keeping NaCl concentration within limits).
    • Sprayed solution must not be reused.
  • Apparatus:
    • Atomizers produce a fine, dense mist and must be made from non-reactive materials.
    • Compressed air to atomizer must be essentially free from oil and dust; recommended relative humidity ≥85% at nozzle to reduce nozzle clogging.
    • Use distilled, demineralized or deionized water for humidity control.
    • Provision for heating and humidifying compressed air and chamber temperature control.
  • Measurements & procedure:
    • Preconditioning, initial measurements, controlled exposure (conditioning), recovery and final measurements are required (see IEC 61300-1 and parts 3-1/3-3 for guidance on visual and performance checks).

Foreword
The text of document 86B/2267/CDV, future edition 2 of IEC 61300-2-26, prepared by SC 86B, Fibre
optic interconnecting devices and passive components, of IEC TC 86, Fibre optics, was submitted to the
IEC-CENELEC parallel Unique Acceptance Procedure and was approved by CENELEC as
EN 61300-2-26 on 2007-05-01.
Specific technical changes include the test conditions such as concentration, pH value and temperature
of salt solution, relative humidity of air and regulations on final measurements.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2008-02-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2010-05-01
Annex ZA has been added by CENELEC.
