This document is applicable to ceramic insulated outdoor bushings for highest voltages for equipment of 24 kV and 36 kV, with rated currents of 5 kA and 8 kA for insulating liquid filled transformers and frequencies from 15 Hz up to 60 Hz. This document establishes dimensions to ensure interchangeability and adequate mounting of bushings. Two types of construction are specified, type A and type B, both types for highest voltages for equipment 24 kV and 36 kV and rated currents of 5 kA and 8 kA. The mechanical stresses of the conductor tube define the difference between type A and type B. The conductor tube of type A is axially and radially fixed in the top of the bushing. The inner line terminal of the transformer can be flexible and without any special support for the lower end of the conductor tube. For new installations bushings of Type A are expected to be used. Type B bushings can be supplied at the request of a customer. In case of type B, the conductor tube is only radially fixed in the top of the bushing. In that case, a rigid support is mounted to fix the lower end of the conductor tube (for example, in combination with a drip proofed sealing end). The drip proofed sealing end is often required in the service requirements. In this case, it is not possible to use type A because of the existing double fixation. Therefore, both bushing types A and B are specified. The condition for the usage of type B is that the drip-proof sealing end is able to withstand the mechanical stress in axial direction.

This International Standard applies to outdoor and indoor bushings of any voltage used on DC systems, of capacitance graded or gas insulated types for use as components of oil-filled converter transformers and smoothing reactors, as well as air-to-air DC bushings. This standard does not apply to the following: • cable terminations (potheads); • bushings for instrument transformers; • bushings for test power supplies; • bushings applied with gaseous insulation (other than air at atmospheric pressure) external to the bushing; • bushings for industrial application; • bushings for traction application; • bushings for distribution class transformers. This standard makes reference to IEC 60137 for general terms and conditions and defines the special terms used, operating conditions, ratings, test procedures as well as general mechanical and electrical requirements for bushings for DC application.

NEW!IEC 60137:2017 is available as IEC 60137:2017 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 60137:2017 specifies the characteristics and tests for insulated bushings. This standard is applicable to bushings, as defined in Clause 3, intended for use in electrical apparatus, machinery, transformers, switchgear and installations for three-phase alternating current systems, having highest voltage for equipment above 1 000 V and power frequencies of 15 Hz up to and including 60 Hz. Subject to special agreement between purchaser and supplier, this standard may be applied, in part or as a whole, to the following: - bushings used in other than three-phase systems; - bushings for high-voltage direct current systems; - bushings for testing transformers; - bushings for capacitors. Special requirements and tests for transformer bushings in this standard apply also to reactor bushings. This standard is applicable to bushings made and sold separately. Bushings which are a part of an apparatus and which cannot be tested according to this standard should be tested with the apparatus of which they form part. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - Resin-impregnated synthetic (RIS) bushings has been introduced. - Bushings with Um ≤ 1,1 kV, Um = 1100 kV and Um = 1200 kV have been introduced. - Temperature rise testing has been included for liquid-insulated bushings according to clause to 3.4. - Introducing dry lightning impulse testing as a routine test for all transformer bushings with Um > 72,5 kV. - The altitude correction procedure has been revised ( > 1 000 m). - An explanation about Very Fast Transient (VFT) phenomenon and its impact on bushings has been included.

This European Standard is applicable to ceramic and resin insulated bushings having highest voltages above 1 kV up to 52 kV, rated currents from 250 A up to 3 150 A and frequencies from 15 Hz up to 60 Hz for insulating liquid filled transformers. This European Standard establishes essential dimensions, to ensure interchangeability of bushings and to ensure adequate mounting and interchangeability of mating plug-in separable connectors of equivalent ratings.

This European Standard should be considered in factual context with EN 50180 only. Constructional details for fastenings and their details are supplementing EN 50180. This information is of importance for utilities concerning compatibility. For a better understanding of additional information some dimension from EN 50180 are repeated in this European Standard. This European Standard was extended for fastenings of bushings for a highest voltage of 52 kV.

This European Standard should be considered in factual context with EN 50180 only. The dimensional supplements are related to figures and tables of EN 50180. To enable a better understanding of additional information some tables from EN 50180 are used and extended. This European Standard may now be used also for bushings with a highest voltage of 52 kV. Figures for the details of the components and the related tables are added according to the extended range of voltage.
