This cabling plant can include single-mode optical fibres, connectors, adapters, splices, and other passive devices. The cabling can be installed in a variety of environments including residential, commercial, industrial and data centre premises, as well as outside plant environments. This document is applicable to all single-mode fibre types including those designated by IEC 60793-2-50 as Class B fibres. The principles of this document can be applied to cabling plants containing branching devices (splitters) and at specific wavelength ranges in situations where passive wavelength selective components are deployed, such as WDM, CWDM and DWDM devices. This document is not intended to apply to cabling plants that include active devices such as fibre amplifiers or dynamic channel equalizers. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2014. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) addition of the equipment cord method;
b) addition of test limit adjustment related to test cord grades;
c) refinements on measurement uncertainties.

This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) addition of uncertainties calculation for optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) measurement methods based on the analysis provided in 61280-4-3;
b) addition of uncertainties calculation for passive optical networks (PON);
c) update of the list of reference grade connectors;
d) addition of probability distribution in Table D.1.

IEC 62343-2-1:2019 provides a reliability qualification test template for dynamic modules (DMs). The template describes the reliability qualification test items and provides information on requirements or options. Example test conditions are given for information purposes in Annex A. For reliability qualification purposes, some information about the internal components, parts and interconnections is needed. These internal parts are treated as black boxes. This document gives requirements for the evaluation of DM reliability by combining the reliability of such internal black boxes. The object of this reliability qualification test template is to provide a framework for the reliability qualification tests for DMs. Developers of reliability qualification tests for DMs determine the test conditions for each test item by referring to the examples in Annex A.

IEC 62343-1:2019 provides general conditions for the standard performance of optical dynamic modules. All performance standards of dynamic modules are based on the general conditions defined in this document. Additional conditions are included in individual performance standards. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition, published in 2016, and constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) errors of Table 1 has been corrected;
b) the contents of Table A.1 has been revised.

IEC 61280-1-4:2023 is available as IEC 61280-1-4:2023 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 61280-1-4:2023 establishes the characterization process of the encircled flux measurement method of light sources intended to be used with multimode fibre. This document sets forth a procedure for the collection of two-dimensional fibre optic nearfield greyscale data and subsequent reduction to one-dimensional data expressed as a set of three sampled parametric functions of radius from the fibre’s optical centre. Estimation of the fibre core diameter is not an objective of this document. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- improvement of calibration procedure and calibration traceability;
- improvement of fibre shaker description and requirements;
- addition of pulsed light sources;
- removal of a poorly traceable calibration process using a micro positioner.

IEC 62343:2023 is available as IEC 62343:2023 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 62343:2023 applies to all commercially available optical dynamic modules and devices. It describes the products covered by the IEC 62343 series, defines terminology, fundamental considerations and basic approaches. The object of this document is to:
- establish uniform requirements for operation, reliability and environmental properties of dynamic modules (DMs) to be implemented in the appropriate DM standard, and
- provide assistance to the purchaser in the selection of consistently high-quality DM products for their particular applications, as well as in the consultation of the appropriate specific DM standard(s).
This document covers performance templates, performance standards, reliability qualification requirements, hardware and software interfaces and related testing methods. Since a dynamic module integrates an optical module/device, printed wiring board, and software/firmware, the standards developed in the series will mimic appropriate existing standards. On the other hand, since "dynamic module" is a relatively new product category, the dynamic module standards series will not be bound by the existing practices where requirements differ.The safety standards as related to dynamic modules are mostly optical power considerations, which is covered by the IEC 60825 series (see Clause 6). This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2017. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- addition of terms and definitions for optical multicast switches (3.8);
- revision of Clause 4, listing the requirements for standards in the IEC 62343 series;
- addition of Clause 6 (Safety requirements).
