IEC 61280-4-5:2020 is applicable to the measurement of attenuation and determination of polarity and length of installed multimode and single-mode optical fibre cabling plant, terminated with MPO connectors, using test equipment having an MPO interface. This cabling plant can include multimode or single-mode optical fibres, connectors, adapters, splices, and other passive devices. The cabling can be installed in a variety of environments including residential, commercial, industrial, and data centre premises, as well as outside plant environments. In this document, the optical fibres that are addressed include sub-categories A1-OMx, where x = 2, 3, 4 and 5 (50/125 μm) multimode optical fibres, as specified in IEC 60793-2-10, and category B-652 and B-657 (9/125 μm) single-mode optical fibres, as specified in IEC 60793-2-50. The attenuation measurements of the other multimode and single-mode categories can also be made using a light source and power meter (LSPM) or optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) utilising an internal or external optical switch having one MPO interface. Multimode measurements are made with an 850 nm source because transceivers used for parallel optics applications having an MPO interface only operate at 850 nm; 1 300 nm measurements are optional. Single-mode measurements are made with a 1 310 nm and/or 1 550 nm source because transceivers used for parallel optics applications having an MPO interface operate at these wavelengths. This document does not include descriptions of cabling that is not exclusively MPO to MPO.

IEC 62343:2017 applies to all commercially available optical dynamic modules and devices. It describes the products covered by the IEC 62343 series, defines terminology, fundamental considerations and basic approaches. The object of this document is to: establish uniform requirements for operation, reliability and environmental properties of dynamic modules (DMs) to be implemented in the appropriate DM standard, and provide assistance to the purchaser in the selection of consistently high-quality DM products for his particular applications, as well as in the consultation of the appropriate specific DM standard(s). This document covers performance templates, performance standards, reliability qualification requirements, hardware and software interfaces and related testing methods. Since a dynamic module integrates an optical module/device, printed wiring board, and software/firmware, the standards developed in the series will mimic appropriate existing standards. On the other hand, since "dynamic module" is a relatively new product category, the dynamic module standards series will not be bounded by the existing practices where requirements differ. The safety standards as related to dynamic modules are mostly optical power considerations, which is covered by IEC TC 76: Optical radiation safety and laser equipment. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2013. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical change with respect to the previous edition: the inclusion of definitions for the wavelength selective switch.

IEC 62150-5:2017 specifies test and measurement procedures for the wavelength channel tuning time of tuneable transmitters. It applies to laser transmitters, and to the transmitter portion of transceivers. This procedure examines whether the device or module satisfies the appropriate performance specification. The method described in this document uses optical filters to transfer the transition of the output wavelength to the transition of the optical power. This is because the transient response of the output wavelength before stabilization at steady-state of the target wavelength channel is too fast to measure using a wavelength meter or an optical spectrum analyser. Reference optical filter sets are described in Annex A.

IEC 61291-5-2:2017 applies to optical amplifiers (OAs) and optically amplified, elementary sub-systems for terrestrial applications, using active fibres (optical fibre amplifiers (OFAs)) containing rare-earth dopants, which are commercially available. The black box approach is used in this document. The black box approach is adopted in order to give product specifications which are independent of OA implementation details. For reliability qualification purposes, some information about the internal components is needed; these internal parts are themselves treated as black boxes. This document gives requirements for the evaluation of OA reliability by combining the reliability of such internal black boxes. The object of this document is to specify the minimum list of reliability qualification tests, requirements on failure criteria during testing and on reliability predictions, and give the relevant normative references to establish a standard method for the assessment of the reliability of OFA devices and sub-systems in order to minimize risks and to promote product development and reliability qualification. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2002. It constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) removal of the contents on the relating quality management system from scope, terms and definitions, and the reliability requirements;
b) moving fit-rate calculation to Annex B (informative);
c) change of requirements for shock test;
d) amendment of abbreviations related to changes a) and b).

IEC TR 62343-6-6:2017(E) which is a Technical Report, describes failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) for optical units of dynamic modules. FMEA is one of the effective and useful analysis methods to determine the reliability evaluation test items and conditions that are defined in future reliability qualification documents. In order to estimate the lifetime for a module, there is a typical procedure. The first step is to identify the dominant failure modes. The second step is to determine the acceleration tests according to these failure modes. The third step is to carry out the test. The fourth step is to estimate the acceleration factors. Finally, the fifth step is to calculate the lifetime of the dynamic module. IEC 61300-2 (all parts) defines environment and mechanical tests. This Technical Report describes the dominant failure mode for dynamic modules and relevant tests from IEC 613002 (all parts). This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2011. It constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- addition of the LCOS based and the DLP based wavelength selective switch (WSS);
- addition of the multicast optical switch module (MCOS).

IEC 61757-2-2:2016 defines detail specifications for distributed temperature measurement by a fibre optic sensor, also known as fibre optic distributed temperature sensing (DTS). DTS includes the use of Raman scattering, Brillouin scattering and Rayleigh scattering effects. In addition, Raman scattering and Rayleigh scattering based measurements are performed with a single-ended fibre configuration only. Brillouin scattering based measurements are performed with a single-ended fibre or fibre loop configuration. The technique accessible from both sides at same time (e. g. Brillouin optical time domain analysis, BOTDA) is referred to here as a loop configuration. Generic specifications for fibre optic sensors are defined in IEC 61757-1:2012. This part of IEC 61757 specifies the most important DTS performance parameters and defines the procedures for their determination. In addition to the group of performance parameters, a list of additional parameters has been defined to support the definition of the measurement specifications and their associated test procedures. The definitions of these additional parameters are provided for informational purposes and should be included with the sets of performance parameters. A general test setup is defined in which all parameters can be gathered through a set of tests. The specific tests are described within the clause for each measurement parameter. This general test setup is depicted and described in Clause 4 along with a list of general information that should be documented based upon the specific DTS instrument and test setup used to measure these parameters as per IEC 61757-2-2. Annex A provides a blank performance parameter table which should be used to record the performance parameter values for a given DTS instrument and chosen optical test setup configuration. Annex B provides guidelines for optional determination of point defect effects. Keywords: fibre optic distributed temperature sensing (DTS)
