IEC 61162-460:2024 is an add-on to IEC 61162-450 where higher safety and security standards are needed, for example due to higher exposure to external threats or to improve network integrity. This document provides requirements and test methods for equipment to be used in an IEC 61162-460 compliant network as well as requirements for the network itself and requirements for interconnection from the network to other networks. This document also contains requirements for a redundant IEC 61162-460 compliant network. This document does not introduce new application level protocol requirements to those that are defined in IEC 61162-450.

IEC 61162-450:2024 specifies interface requirements and methods of test for high speed communication between shipboard navigation and radiocommunication equipment as well as between such systems and other ship systems that need to communicate with navigation and radio-communication equipment. This document is based on the application of an appropriate suite of existing international standards to provide a framework for implementing data transfer between devices on a shipboard Ethernet network.

IEC 61162-1:2024 contains the requirements for data communication between maritime electronic instruments, navigation and radiocommunication equipment when interconnected via an appropriate system. This document is intended to support one-way serial data transmission from a single talker to one or more listeners. These data are in printable ASCII form and can include information such as position, speed, depth, frequency allocation, etc. Typical messages can be from about 11 to a maximum of 79 characters in length and generally require transmission no more rapidly than one message per second. The electrical definitions in this document are not intended to accommodate high-bandwidth applications such as radar or video imagery, or intensive database or file transfer applications. Since there is no provision for guaranteed delivery of messages and only limited error checking capability, it is important this document is used with caution in all safety applications. For applications where a faster transmission rate is necessary, IEC 61162-2 applies. For applications to shore based equipment of the automatic identification system (AIS) the IEC 62320 series applies.

IEC 61162-2:2024 contains the requirements for data communication between maritime electronic instruments, navigation and radiocommunication equipment when interconnected via an appropriate interface. This document is intended to support one-way serial data transmission from a single talker to one or more listeners. This data is in printable ASCII form and can include any information as specified by approved sentences or information coded according to the rules for proprietary sentences. Typical messages can be from 11 to a maximum of 79 characters in length and generally require repetition rates up to once per 20 ms. The electrical definitions in this document are intended to accommodate higher data rates than are specified in IEC 61162-1. Since there is no provision for guaranteed delivery of messages and only limited error-checking capability, it is important this document is used with caution in all safety applications.

IEC 61097-4:2024 specifies the performance requirements and methods of testing for Inmarsat-C ship earth stations (SES) capable of transmitting and receiving direct-printing communications, and for enhanced group call (EGC) receivers, for use in the GMDSS and for use for long-range identification and tracking (LRIT). The available variants are:
Class 0: An EGC receiver, either stand-alone or an element of a GMDSS installation in accordance with the Inmarsat design and installation guidelines (DIGs) for GMDSS installations.
Class 1: A basic SES providing shore-to-ship and ship-to-shore message transfer only.
Class 2: As class 1 but with EGC as an alternative to shore-to-ship transfer using a shared receiver.
Class 3: As class 1 but with EGC using an independent receiver.
NOTE 1 The 34th session of the IMO Sub-Committee on Radiocommunications decided that class 2 equipment would be adequate to provide sufficient availability for the reception of maritime safety information for the GMDSS.
This document complies with IMO performance requirements stated in the normative references, Inmarsat technical characteristics and test procedures, and IEC 60945 general requirements except where modifications are explicitly stated in this document. Technical characteristics essential to GMDSS and LRIT operation as defined by the IMO are identified.
All text of this document, whose wording is identical to that in IMO SOLAS Convention 1974 as amended in 1988 and Resolutions MSC.513(105), MSC.263(84) and MSC.306(87) is printed in italics and reference made to the Resolution/Recommendation and subclause number.
This document covers equipment construction and testing. Matters relating to installation can be found in the Inmarsat Maritime design and installation guidelines (see Bibliography). Those to be found in IMO Resolutions MSC.513(105), MSC.263(84) and MSC.306(87) are reproduced in Annex A.
Responsibility for type approval of Inmarsat-C and Inmarsat-EGC is vested in Inmarsat by IMO Resolutions MSC.513(105) and MSC.306(87) (see 4.2.1). Therefore, this document does not reproduce Inmarsat test procedures in full but refers to where they are given in Inmarsat documentation cited in the normative references to this document (Annex C).
NOTE 2 For the purposes of this document the terms Inmarsat C, Inmarsat-C, Inmarsat Standard-C, Standard-C refer to the same equipment.

IEC PAS 62923-101:2022 primarily provides support to other workgroups to include alert requirements in standards in line with Bridge Alert Management (BAM), and additionally provides support to designers to implement alert properties so that they conform with the BAM requirements. This document is applicable, and is intended to provide guidance, when the intention is to implement BAM according to IMO Resolution MSC.302(87). Based on the IMO decision to adopt the BAM Performance Standard MSC.302(87) as a high level leading umbrella standard for intended implementation of BAM, IMO resolved in MSC.302(87), 3.6, that in case of conflict with alert requirements in existing performance standards, MSC.302(87) takes precedence.

IEC 63173-2:2022 the scope of secure communication between ship and shore (SECOM) includes interfaces (APIs) for data exchange (information services), information security measures to enable secure communication and interfaces for service discoverability. SECOM provides technical interoperability, where the same service interface is used for exchanging the information regardless of its operational use, up to the level of exchanging information securely online. Although designed for IHO S-100 based products, SECOM is technically payload agnostic and applicable also for other types of data.
Communication between SECOM information services for data exchange relies on IP based web services. The "last mile" links between a SECOM information service and the end-user application is not defined in this document, thus the communication technology between the vendor API and a ship/shore system can be non-IP based as well as IP based. The informative Annex D describes one such implementation of this. This allows different solutions between the service and shore/ship’s system/applications.
SECOM does not define physical layer or link layer for transport of data between SECOM information services, but requires that the transport supports IP communication. SECOM is applicable for both public (governmental) and private (business) services. SECOM is applicable for ship-shore and shore-ship communication, and can be used for ship-ship communication.
