ISO/TR 7470:2026 is an ISO Technical Report from ISO that lists gas cylinder valve outlets in use. It gives thread types and sizes, and it is meant to help readers identify the outlet references used for different gases and countries. Complete descriptions of individual valve outlets are given in national standards.
What does ISO/TR 7470:2026 specify?
ISO/TR 7470:2026 specifies a list of gas cylinder valve outlets in use and provides details of thread types and sizes. The report is organized into four clauses: Scope, Normative references, Terms and definitions, and Valve outlets by countries and by threads.
The practical value is in Clause 4, which points to the detailed outlet data. The document also states that complete descriptions of particular valve outlets are found in national standards, so this report works as a cross-reference rather than the full technical definition of each outlet.
What are the key requirements of ISO/TR 7470:2026?
ISO/TR 7470:2026 is mainly a reference list, so its key content is how to read and use the outlet information.
- Clause 1 limits the document to gas cylinder valve outlets in use and to thread types and sizes. In practice, this helps users identify the outlet family they need before checking the detailed national standard.
- Clause 4 says Table 1 lists each gas and the corresponding spreadsheet tabs. The spreadsheet contains the nominal dimensions, designations and references of valve outlets, arranged by country and by thread type.
- Clause 4 states that all pressures are given in bar. This matters because users need a common pressure unit when comparing outlet data across gases and national references.
- Clause 4 explains the pressure rating convention used in the list. For compressed gas, the rating normally corresponds to the working pressure of the gas cylinder; for liquefied gases, it corresponds to the test pressure of the gas cylinder.
- Clause 4 tells users to refer to the applicable valve outlet standard if there is doubt. That is important when a gas is used in more than one national system or when outlet references need confirmation.
- The note in Clause 1 says that complete descriptions of particular valve outlets are given in national standards. This means the report helps with identification and comparison, but the national standard is the place to check the full outlet specification.
- The foreword says the tables are provided in a spreadsheet available online. In practice, users should expect the detailed outlet list to be maintained in tabular form rather than only in printed text.
Who uses ISO/TR 7470:2026?
ISO/TR 7470:2026 is used by people working with gas cylinders and cylinder fittings who need to match a gas to a valve outlet thread type or national outlet reference. It is also relevant to manufacturers, designers and technical staff who check whether a cylinder connection matches the outlet used in a given country or application.
Because the report lists outlet provisions by gas and thread type, it is useful for standardization work, product definition and technical checking. It helps users compare outlet references before they consult the underlying national valve outlet standard.
What changed in ISO/TR 7470:2026 from the previous edition?
ISO/TR 7470:2026 cancels and replaces ISO/TR 7470:2023. The foreword says the fourth edition has been technically revised, and the main stated change is that the tables are provided in a spreadsheet available online.
What does the ISO/TR 7470:2026 document contain?
ISO/TR 7470:2026 contains the front matter, the scope, the statements on normative references and terms, and the clause on valve outlets by countries and by threads. The detailed list of gases is tied to spreadsheet tabs, and the spreadsheet carries the nominal dimensions, designations and references for the valve outlets.
The document also includes the note that complete outlet descriptions are found in national standards. For readers, that means the report is a navigation aid and comparison list, while the national standard is the place to verify the full valve outlet details.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through
ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee
has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations,
governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely
with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are described
in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular, the different approval criteria needed for the different types
of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the editorial rules of the
ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 (see www.iso.org/directives).
