BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 272, Hexagon Bolts and Nuts-Widths across Flats,
Heights of Heads, Thicknesses of Nuts, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 2,
Bolts, Nuts and Accessories, the Secretariat of which is held by the Deutscher Normen-
ausschuss (DNA).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1953 and led, in 1959,
to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In June 1960, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 383) was circulated to all the
IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an
editorial nature, by the following Member Bodies :

Denmark Japan Sweden
Finland Netherlands United Kingdom
Germany New Zealand U.S.S.R.
Greece Norway
Hungary
Poland
Five Member Bodies opposed the approval of the Draft: Australia, Belgium,
Czechoslovakia, France, Switzerland.
The Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0
Council, which decided, in September 1962, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 272, Boulons et écrous hexugonaux - Surplats,
hauteurs de tête, hauteurs d’écrous, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 2,
Boulons, écrous et accessoires, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le Deutscher Normen-
ausschuss (DNA).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique en 1953
et aboutirent en 1959 à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En juin 1960, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 383) fut soumis à l’enquête
de tous les Comités Membres de 1’ISO. II fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques inodifi-
cations d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :
