BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 406, Inscription OJ Linear and Angular Tolerances, was drawn
up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 10, Drawings (general principles), the Secretariat of which
is held by the Association Suisse de Normalisation (SNV).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1951, taking into account the
studies which had been made by the former International Federation of the National Standardizing
Associations (ISA), and led, in 1961 to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In December 1961, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 493) was circulated to all the
IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial
nature, by the following Member Bodies :

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 406, Inscription des tolérances linéaires et angulaires, a été
élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 10, Dessins (principes généraux), dont le Secrétariat
est assuré par l’Association Suisse de Normalisation (SNV).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris en 1951 par le Comité Technique qui
prit en considération les études qui avaient été effectuées par l’ancienne Fédération Interna-
tionale des Associations Nationales de Normalisation (ISA). Les travaux aboutirent en 1961
à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En décembre 1961, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 493) fut soumis à l’enquête de
tous les Comités Membres de I’ISO. 11 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications
d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :
