ISO 8216-1:2005 establishes the detailed classification of marine fuels within class F (Petroleum fuels). It is intended to be read in conjunction with ISO 8216-99. All fuels for marine applications may be used for many similar but differing purposes in ships. Many marine fuels, being based on crude oil residue, defy specific definition but nevertheless can be categorized within the scope of ISO 8216-1:2005.

L'ISO 8216-1:2005 établit la classification détaillée des combustibles pour la marine appartenant à la classe F (combustibles pétroliers). Elle est censée être lue conjointement avec l'ISO 8216-99. Tous les combustibles pour la marine peuvent être utilisés par les navires dans de nombreuses applications analogues mais avec cependant des différences. Beaucoup de combustibles pour la marine à base de résidus de pétrole brut n'ont pas de définition spécifique. Néanmoins, ils peuvent être inclus dans le cadre de l'ISO 8216-1:2005.

Предисловие
Международная организация по стандартизации (ISO) является всемирной федерацией национальных
организаций по стандартизации (комитетов-членов ISO). Разработка международных стандартов
обычно осуществляется техническими комитетами ISO. Каждый комитет-член, заинтересованный в

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent

This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 8216-1:1996), subclause 3.2 and Table 1 of
which have been revised.

This classification was prepared in co-operation with the marine and petroleum industries to meet
requirements for marine fuels supplied on a world-wide basis for consumption on board ships. Crude oil

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération mondiale d'organismes nationaux de
normalisation (comités membres de l'ISO). L'élaboration des Normes internationales est en général confiée
aux comités techniques de l'ISO. Chaque comité membre intéressé par une étude a le droit de faire partie du
comité technique créé à cet effet. Les organisations internationales, gouvernementales et non
gouvernementales, en liaison avec l'ISO participent également aux travaux. L'ISO collabore étroitement avec
