This European Standard specifies the reference method used for type testing, and in case of dispute, for determining the compressibility and confined compressive strength of lightweight aggregates (LWA). Diese Europäische Norm legt das Referenzverfahren für die Typprüfung fest sowie im Fall von Streitigkeiten für die Bestimmung der Verdichtbarkeit und Druckfestigkeit bei behinderter Querdehnung von leichten Gesteinskörnungen (LWA, en: lightweight aggregates). Für andere Zwecke, insbesondere im Rahmen der werkseigenen Produktionskontrolle, können andere Verfahren angewendet werden, sofern ein ausreichender Zusammenhang zum Referenzverfahren nachgewiesen wurde.
Die Prüfung gilt für LWA, die durch ein 32-mm-Sieb hindurchpassen.

La présente norme européenne définit la méthode de référence utilisée pour les essais de type, et en cas de litige, pour la détermination de la compressibilité et de la résistance à la compression triaxiale des granulats légers. Dans les autres cas, en particulier pour la maîtrise de la production en usine, d'autres méthodes peuvent être utilisées sous réserve qu'une corrélation appropriée avec la méthode de référence ait été établie.
L'essai est applicable aux granulats légers passant à travers un tamis de 32 mm.

EN 1097-11:2013 (CEN) specifies the reference laboratory method for determining the compressibility and confined compressive strength of lightweight aggregates (LWA). Intended principally for type testing and dispute resolution, the standard applies to LWA passing the 32 mm sieve and defines specimen preparation, instrumentation and calculation procedures used to produce reproducible stress–deformation curves and the characteristic CS(10) value (confined compressive strength at 10% deformation).

    • Stage 2 - Confined compression: apply continuous load while recording load and displacement; compute confined compressive stress–deformation curve and determine confined compressive strength at 10% deformation, CS(10).
  • Calculations & reporting: formulas for bulk density, compressibility and stress–deformation conversion are specified; report mean values for three specimens, include moisture content and any deviations.
  • Precision: Annex notes that inter-laboratory precision values were not established at time of publication.
