Safety of woodworking machines - Circular sawing machines - Part 1: Circular saw benches (with and without sliding table), dimension saws and building site saws

This document deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in Clause 4 which are relevant to stationary and displaceable circular saw benches (with or without sliding table and/or demountable power feed unit), dimensions saws and building site saws, hereinafter referred to as “machines”, designed to cut solid wood, chipboard, fibreboard, plywood and also these materials, if they are covered with plastic edging and/or plastic/light alloy laminates, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer.
NOTE 1   For the definition of stationary and displaceable machine see 3.13 and 3.14.
NOTE 2   Circular saw benches, and dimension saws are used for ripping, cross cutting, dimensioning and grooving. Building site saws are used for ripping, cross cutting and dimensioning.
The requirements of this document apply also to machines designed for grooving with a width not exceeding 20 mm in one pass by using a milling tool.
This document does not apply to:
a)   machines set up on a bench or a table similar to a bench, which are intended to carry out work in a stationary position, capable of being lifted by one person by hand. The bench can also be an integrated part of the machine if it consists of hinged legs which can be extended down;
b)   hand held woodworking machines including any adaptation permitting their use in a different mode, i.e. bench mounting.
NOTE 3   Transportable electrically driven machines are covered by the requirements of EN 61029-1:2000 together with EN 61029-2-1:2002; hand-held woodworking machines and saw benches to form an integrated whole with a hand-held woodworking machine are covered by EN 60745-1:2003 together with EN 60745-2-5:2003.
For the purpose of this document building site saws having a tiltable spindle are considered to be circular saw benches.

Dieses Dokument behandelt die im Abschnitt 4 aufgeführten signifikanten Gefährdungen, Gefährdungs¬situationen und Gefährdungsereignisse, die auf stationäre und verschiebbare Tischkreissägemaschinen (mit und ohne Schiebetisch und/oder abnehmbaren Vorschubapparat), Formatkreissägemaschinen und Baustellenkreissägemaschinen zutreffen,  im Folgenden als Maschinen bezeichnet , die konstruiert sind zum Schneiden von Massivholz, Spanplatten, Faserplatten, Sperrholz, sowie diesen Werkstoffen, wenn sie mit Kunststoffkanten und/oder mit Kunststoff/Leichtmetall-Legierung beschichtet sind, wenn sie bestimmungsgemäß und entsprechend den durch den Hersteller vorhersehbaren Bedingungen verwendet werden.
ANMERKUNG 1   Hinsichtlich der Definition von stationärer und verschiebbarer Maschine siehe 3.2.13 und 3.2.14.
ANMERKUNG 2   Tischkreissägemaschinen und Formatkreissägemaschinen werden zum Längs-, Quer- und Format¬schneiden und zum Nuten eingesetzt. Baustellenkreissägemaschinen werden zum Längs-, Quer- und Formatschneiden verwendet.
Die Anforderungen in diesem Dokument gelten auch für Maschinen, die auch zum Nuten von einer Breite, die 20 mm nicht übersteigt, mittels einem Fräswerkzeug in einem Arbeitsgang konstruiert sind.
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für:
a)   Maschinen, die auf ein Gestell oder auf einen Tisch, der einem Gestell ähnlich ist, aufgesetzt sind und die vorgesehen sind, während des Betriebs stationär verwendet zu werden und die von Hand von einer Person angehoben werden können. Das Gestell kann auch ein fester Bestandteil der Maschine sein, wenn es aus scharnierbefestigten Füßen besteht, die heruntergeklappt werden können;
b)   handgeführte Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen einschließlich irgendwelchen Einrichtungen, die ihre Verwendung in einer anderen Weise d. h. in einem Gestell montiert, ermöglichen.

ci-apres désignées sous le terme « machines ». Celles-ci sont conçues pour la coupe de bois massif, de panneaux de particules et de fibres, de contreplaqué ainsi que ces matériaux lorsque leurs surfaces ou leurs chants sont recouverts de plastique et/ou de plastique/alliages légers, lorsqu’elles sont utilisées comme prévu et dans les conditions prévues par le constructeur.
NOTE 1   Pour la définition de machines fixes et de machines transportables, voir 3.13 et 3.14.
NOTE 2   Les scies circulaires a table de menuisier et les scies au format sont utilisées pour le délignage, pour le tronçonnage, pour la coupe au format et pour le rainurage. Les scies de chantier sont utilisées pour le délignage, pour le tronçonnage et pour la coupe au format.
Les prescriptions du présent document s’appliquent aussi aux machines conçues pour le rainurage avec une largeur ne dépassant pas 20 mm par passage d’une fraise.
Le présent document ne s’applique pas :
a)   aux machines montées sur un établi ou une table similaire a un établi, qui sont conçues pour réaliser un travail en position fixe et qui peuvent etre soulevées a la main par une personne. L’établi peut également faire partie intégrante de la machine s’il est composé de pieds articulés qui peuvent etre dépliés ;

EN 1870-1:2007 (E) 6 Introduction This document has been prepared to be a harmonised standard to provide one means of conforming to the essential safety requirements of the Machinery Directive and associated EFTA regulations. This document is a type "C“ standard as defined in EN ISO 12100-1:2003. The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations and events are covered are indicated in the scope of this document. When provisions of this type C standard are different from those which are stated in type A or B standards, the provisions of this type C standard take precedence over the provisions of other standards, for machines that have been designed and built according to the provisions of this type C standard. The requirements of this document are directed to manufacturers and their authorised representatives of circular saw benches (with and without sliding table), dimension saws and building site saws. They are also useful for designers. This document also includes provisions and examples of information to be provided by the manufacturer to the user.
