Safety of woodworking machines - One side moulding machines with rotating tool - Part 1: Single spindle vertical moulding machines
This document specifies all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in Clause 4 which are relevant to stationary and displaceable hand fed single spindle vertical moulding machines (with or without demountable power feed unit), herein after referred to as "machines", designed to cut solid wood, chip board, fibreboard, plywood and also these materials if they are covered with plastic laminate or edgings when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. This document does not apply to machines equipped with outboard bearings; machines equipped with powered movements of front extension table and/or tenoning travelling table; hand held woodworking machines or any adaptation permitting their use in a different mode, i.e. bench mounting; machines set up on a bench or a table similar to a bench, which are intended to carry out work in a stationary position, capable of being lifted by one person by hand. The bench can also be an integrated part of the machine if it consists of hinged legs which can be extended down. This document is not applicable to hand fed single spindle vertical moulding machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication as EN.

"Where the fence and/or the adjustable table insert and/or the tool spindle (rotating or not rotating) are
capable of power driven adjustments under hold-to-run control, these adjustments shall be effected, one
movement at a time, by means of a hold-to-run control device with a stop control in the vicinity taking account
of basic principles in of 6.2.11.8 b) of EN ISO 12100:2010 and the corresponding safety related part of the
control system for each movement speed shall conform to at least PL=b in accordance with the requirements

of EN ISO 13849-1:2008. The adjustment speed shall not exceed 10 mm s or 5° s .
The safety related part of the control system for initiating and stopping of any movement shall conform to at
least PL=c in accordance with the requirements of EN ISO 13849-1:2008.
At the end of the hold-to-run movements power is cut to the corresponding machine actuators. A time delay
device conforming to 5.2.1.2 b) may be used for cutting power with time delay corresponding to a predefined
maximum adjustment time. Either the time delay shall be fixed or the time delay adjustment device shall be
sealed. A new initiation shall be necessary to perform additional adjustments if the predefined maximum
adjustment time is exceeded.".
16 Modifications to 5.2.8.2, Automatic power driven adjustments
Replace c) with:
"c) The machine is fitted with a detection system of collision between the tool and other parts of the machine.
The control circuits for detection of collision shall be at least PL=b in accordance with the requirements of
EN ISO 13849-1:2008. Collision shall be prevented in one of the following ways:
1) a distance of min. 5 mm between edges of the tool and parts of the machine is kept during
adjustment and after stopping adjustment. The control circuits for adjustment shall be at least PL=b
in accordance with the requirements of EN ISO 13849-1:2008. Adjustment to smaller distances than
5 mm shall be by hold-to-run-control and the speed shall not exceed 1 mm/s or 0,5°/s (control circuits
in PL=c in accordance with the requirements of EN ISO 13849-1:2008.). See 5.2.8.1; or

2) the spindle when tilting shall not rotate. Spindle rotation shall be interlocked with power driven
