This document specifies a method of assessing the behaviour of protection sleeves or conduits subject to an external electric arc at 115 VAC, 800 Hz.
This document is used in conjunction with EN 6059-100.

Two levels of prospective fault current are specified for all protection sizes.

Der Hauptzweck dieser Prüfung besteht darin, in unmittelbarer Nähe eines Schutzschlauches oder -rohres auf geregelte Weise Lichtbögen zu erzeugen und mögliche Auswirkungen auf die geschützten Leitungsbündel zu untersuchen, deren sicherer Zustand aufrechterhalten werden soll.
Diese Lichtbögen sind repräsentativ für die Lichtbögen, die während des Betriebes auftreten können, wenn ein typisches benachbartes Leitungsbündel stark beschädigt ist und zu einem Lichtbogenfehler führt.
Um die Dicke und Masse eines derartigen Schutzes zu optimieren, ist es erforderlich, jedem Aufbau von Schutzschläuchen oder -rohren einen Nenn-Grenzstrom In zuzuordnen.
Zwei Werte für einen unbeeinflussten Fehlerstrom wurden für alle Größen von Schutzschläuchen/-rohren festgelegt.

1 Scope

This document is expected to be used together with EN 6059-100.

4 Specimen requirements
Protection sleeves or conduits to be tested shall be of traceable origin and, unless otherwise specified,
shall have passed the voltage proof test (EN 6059-501) as defined in the concerned product standard.
Unless otherwise specified in the concerned technical product standard, at least one size of protection
sleeve per sleeve thickness or construction type (if different from one size to another) shall be assessed.
If possible, for each thickness or construction type, the test must be performed on a sample having the
minimum authorized thickness or minimum authorized mass.
5 Definition and preparation of specimen
5.1 Test configuration
Test set ups are made to reproduce arc containment configuration, which is the worst-case scenario to
demonstrate that sleeve/conduit protect against arc blast and act also as a physical protected barrier.
Current fault of short-circuit shall be max 15 A which represents sleeve installation and signal
segregation at aircraft integration.
The bundle T shall be attached side by side with bundle P by qualified cable ties, according to the
following Figure 1 and illustrated by Figure 2.

5.2 Target bundle (bundle T)
5.2.1 Definition and constitution
Bundles T are made of seven arc-tracking resistant cables, typically from EN 2267-010 product
standard unless otherwise specified in the concerned protection sleeves product standard, without
bundle external protection.
5.2.2 Preparation
Cut seven separate lengths of approximately 1 m consecutively from one length of cable, and strip one
of the ends of insulation to permit electrical connection. Clean each length of cable with a clean cloth
moistened with propan-2-ol (isopropyl alcohol) fluid.
5.2.3 Lay up the seven cables as follows
a) Form the bundle of cables in a six around one configuration as shown in Figure 3.
b) Ensure that all cables are straight and geometrically parallel, and restrained by ties such that they
are in continuous contact at least within the test zone.
c) Position the ties at 50 mm spacing toward the end of the specimen as shown in Figure 4.
The tie material shall be PTFE glass lacing tape conforming to A-A-52083, finish D size 3.

5.3 Protected bundle (bundle P)
5.3.1 Definition and constitution
Bundles P are made of arc-tracking resistant cables, typically from EN 2267-010 product standard
unless otherwise specified in the concerned protection sleeves product standard, with bundle external
protection to be tested.
5.3.2 Preparation
Cut seven separate lengths of approximately 1 m consecutively from one length of cable, and strip each
of the ends of cable insulation to permit electrical connection.
Clean each length of cable with a clean cloth moistened with propan-2-ol (isopropyl alcohol) fluid.
5.3.3 Lay up the seven cables as follows
a) Damage two cables by inflicting a cut around the total circumference of insulation at the mid-point
of the length:
— take care to ensure that the cut penetrates to the conductor around the full circumference and
has a width 5 mm ± 1 mm (refer to Figure 4). Precaution shall be taken not to cut through the
conductor;
— those two damaged cables shall be side by side and they are identified individually with labels
as A1 and C1 (refer to Figure 4).
b) The five other cables are identified individually with labels as B1, B2 A2, C2 and N.
