This Part 4-1 of EN 50290 gives the environmental conditions and safety aspects of symmetrical, coaxial and optical cables used for the infrastructure of communication and control networks.
It will be read in conjunction with EN 50290-1-1 and is completed by generic, sectional, family and detail specifications, as appropriate, to describe in a detailed manner each type of cable with its specific characteristics.

This Technical Report describes the procedure to repair damaged CATV cables. The following coaxial cables are considered in this guide:
– Coaxial cables with semi air spaced dielectric
Outer conductor: copper band, longitudinal welded
– Coaxial cables foamed polyethylene or solid polyethylene dielectric
Outer conductor: copper band, longitudinal welded
– Coaxial cables foamed polyethylene or solid polyethylene dielectric
Outer conductor: Overlapped foil of copper or aluminium with braid
– Coaxial cables foamed polyethylene or solid polyethylene dielectric
Outer conductor: Overlapped foil of copper or aluminium without braid
– Coaxial cables foamed polyethylene dielectric
Outer conductor: Corrugated copper
This guide is a helpful tool for providers and installers to find out the extend and the effects of damaged cables and to achieve and to evaluate appropriate repair operation. For not buried cables, e.g. indoor cables, the application of this guide is analogous.

This part of IEC 62037 defines test fixtures and procedures recommended for measuring levels of passive intermodulation generated by coaxial cables. Two dynamic test methods and a static test method are defined. All coaxial cables are subjected to the static and clamped cable loop dynamic test. Cables classified as flexible or semi-flexible are additionally subjected to the flexing tool dynamic test.

This European Standard specifies the constructional details and performance requirements for cables for indoor Residential Cabling Systems characterized up to 100 MHz. Cables in this European Standard are based on the common design rules specified in EN 50290-2-1 and are specifically intended for supporting ICT and BCT applications (telephone, computer and TV services) as specified in EN 50173-4. The cables covered in this European Standard are intended to operate with voltages and currents normally encountered in communication systems. These cables are not intended to be used in conjunction with low impedance sources, for example, the electrical power supply of public utility mains. Cables covered in this European Standard may however be subjected to voltages of not more than 300 V a.c. or 450 V d.c and comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive. The maximum current rating per conductor is 3 A/mm? unless otherwise specified in the relevant detail specification.
